Lest We Forget. Australian and New Zealand troop convoys' departed from Albany's King George Sound to enter the First World War in 1914. For thousands it was the last time they would be on Australian soil. Years later in 1918, it is in Albany where the first ever Dawn Service was held by Padre White. Albany is deeply entwined in our ANZAC story, so it's easy to see why the National ANZAC Centre was built there. The Centre is nothing like we have seen before and we have visited many Military museums from all across Australia. Upon arrival at the National ANZAC Centre you are given a card with the identity of an ANZAC on it. This card allows you to follow the story of your person from recruitment, embarkment, conflicts in WWI, til their death (whether it being during the war or many years later) throughout your journey in the centre. Also, at arrival, you are given your own personal headphone device so you can choose which stories you want to listen to. It is an absolutely amazing place that showcases the ANZAC story and spirit beautifully. The @nationalanzaccentre is located within Albany's heritage listed Princess Royal Fortress overlooking King George Sound - the very harbour 41,000 men and women departed by ship destined for the Great War, many never returning. It's no surprise the National ANZAC Centre has won so many awards. We were very impressed with this museum with its immersive and interactive displays, we highly recommend you check it out when in @amazingalbanywa. Upon entry, each visitor is given a card assigning them with 1 of 32 real life service men/women. Via the many interactive displays throughout the museum you retrace their journey from pre-war life, recruitment & training, life onboard the convoys and their experiences of the war. At the end of your walk through the centre you learn of your characters post war life and fate. You are also given the opportunity to leave your thoughs and tributes via the interactive tribute wall, messages are also posted online. It was 107 years ago today that Australian and Zealand soldiers landed on Turkey's Gallipoli Peninsula during World War I. Light Horse Memorial ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A special place in Albany's history, it commemorates the men of the Australian Light Horse Brigade as well as the New Zealand Mounted Rifles, the Imperial Camel Corps and the Australian Flying Corps who served in Egypt, Palestine and Syria between 1916 and 1918. I was lucky enough to be able to visit earlier this week and pay my respects.

**The National ANZAC centre** set within the heritage listed Princess Royal Fortress in Albany is a one of a kind museum that provided us with a personal connection to WWl. On November 1, 1914 the first convoy of over 41000 Aus and NZ troops left Albany bound for war. While looking out over this departure point in the ANZAC centre we were provided with an individual each to follow from recruitment and training, through to their time at war and life post war. I learnt about Padre White who after his service as a priest at war returned to Albany and founded the dawn service tradition.
