It breaks down common stereotypes and explains how they came to be, through the use of wit, stats, and comedy, and highlights key factors in how images have changed over the years while underscoring the point that representation matters — behind the scenes and in front of the camera. “We all know the black guy dies first in movies, right? Actually, that’s not entirely true, but there’s a long history behind why that’s largely the perception. It’s a concept, among many, explored by horror movie scholars Dr. Robin R. Means Coleman, and Mark H. Harris. “The title is The Black Guy Dies First because it uses that trope as the jumping off point to illustrate the marginalization of Black characters and the way they’re portrayed in horror movies over the last 50 plus years,” Harris tells #AmericanUrbanRadioNetworks. “We’re charting the progress, the ups, downs and ups again of that sort of betrayal.” “The Black guy dying is horror’s way of pushing the characters to the side. Black people are marginalized in other genres, but in horror, specifically, it usually takes the form of getting a machete to the head or something like that,” says Harris. “So, the book is a campy, fun way to Begin that conversation and give it a light-hearted tone to get people in and then slip the messaging in underneath.”

The network was �put together by 𝗘𝘂𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲 𝗗. 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀𝗼𝗻, 𝗦𝘆𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗟. 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹, and 𝗗𝗲𝗹 𝗥𝗮𝘆𝗰𝗲𝗲. In the early 1990s, NBN merged with the Sheridan Broadcasting Network to form the 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗨𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗼 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸. Veteran Reporter Gets Death Threats For Bringing Up Possible Trump Resignation At WH Press Briefing . Proving again that there’s no “bottom" that #Trump supporters won’t stoop to, veteran #WhiteHouse correspondent #AprilRyan shared the reaction she received after asking at a WH Press briefing this week whether Trump ever considered “stepping down” in light of this week’s #FBI raid on his lawyer, #MichaelCohen. . White House Press Secretary #SarahHuckabeeSanders called Ryan’s question “ridiculous" (the question was prompted from Ryan’s sources who advised that this was an option contemplated inside the Administration). This reaction by Sanders was evidently interpreted by Trump voters as providing permission to make death threats against a journalist for doing her job, much as Trump himself tacitly and explicitly encouraged physically harming and intimidating journalists during his campaign. . Ryan herself notes there’s nothing improper about asking such a question, particularly given the turmoil this Administration has been thrown into since the US Attorney exercised its warrant to search Trump's lawyer's premises for evidence of probable criminal activity. . Because she’s African-American and female, Ryan makes an attractive target for Trump’s virulently #racist and #misogynist supporters. She’d previously received death threats when former Trump Press Secretary #SeanSpicer warned her to “stop shaking her head” in reaction to his responses. . April Ryan has worked as a White House Reporter for over 20 years on behalf of Pittsburgh based #AmericanUrbanRadioNetworks, serving 300 radio stations with predominantly African-American audiences. . The type of person who would threaten a White House #reporter with death for asking a legitimate question has no business calling himself or herself an #American. Unfortunately, the election of #DonaldTrump has wholly emboldened thousands of these types of people to crawl out from under their rocks. . These attacks on journalists are just another lasting consequence of the 2016 election that Americans will likely have to cope with long after the Trump Administration is just a sad footnote in this country’s history.

White House Reporter April Ryan Refuses to be Silenced by Trump Administration . #WhiteHouse press briefings in the #Trump era have taken on an entirely new tone. While the press has been tough on past administrations, the relationship between the two bodies has generally been one of respect, or at the very least, of mutual necessity. As we’ve been witnessing for the last six months, this is not so with the Trump administration. They hate the media asking them critical questions or holding them accountable. They love to make demonizing the news a national pastime and they don’t care who knows it. . However, no one White House reporter seems to have incurred the administration’s wrath quite like #AprilRyan, the bureau chief for #AmericanUrbanRadioNetworks. Their obsession with attacking her is both bizarre and incredibly inappropriate. It’s been hard not to notice because it occurs regularly on live TV. . One theory is that, through their interactions with Ryan, Trump’s team is sending a very clear message to black people and other people of color that white supremacy is in full effect in this White House and that these powerful white people can do whatever they want, consequences be damned. But Ryan isn’t intimidated and she’s not backing down. . In a interview on #CNN, commentator Angela Rye’s podcast On 1 with A. Rye, Ryan suggests that the real reason the Trump administration is laser focused on her has to do with her former friendship with Trump sycophant and director of communications for the Office of Public Liaison, #OmarosaManigault. The two had known each other for years but began to drift apart after Manigault began campaigning for Trump. At that time, according to Ryan, #TeamTrump wasn't at all happy with their friendship and was actively looking for ways to discredit her. This led to an epic showdown in the White House in February. . This shouldn’t surprise us. There's nothing more that Trump loves than drama. And since he has an obsession with loyalty and revenge, it’s easy to imagine him asking Omarosa to prove his loyalty by doing whatever she can to throw April under the bus and make life miserable for her.

The Alice Freeman Palmer Memorial Institute, better known as Palmer Memorial Institute, was a school for upper class African Americans. It was founded in 1902 by Dr. Charlotte Hawkins Brown at Sedalia, North Carolina near Greensboro. _____ Palmer Memorial Institute was named after Alice Freeman Palmer, former president of Wellesley College and benefector of Dr. Brown. It became, before its closure in the 1970s, a fully accredited, nationally recognized preparatory school. More than 1,000 African American students attended the school between 1902 and 1970. _____ Born in Henderson, North Carolina on June 11, 1883, Miss Brown's journey in education began with a chance meeting of Alice Freeman Palmer, while babysitting. Miss Palmer would become a big influence on Miss Brown, who would later pay for her college education at the State Normal School at Salem, Massachusetts, and encourage Brown to return to her native North Carolina to help improve education for African Americans. _____ Deciding to establish her own school after her new teaching job at American Missionary Association ended due to the school's closure, Miss Brown returned to Massachusetts where with the help of Miss Palmer, was connected to very prominent people in education, philanthropy and business to raise funding. She managed to keep the school running for another year, with donations. The new school started small, in an old log cabin with just two teachers and few students. This chump had the audacity to ask reporter April Ryan (@ADR1600), a 24-year journalism veteran for #AmericanUrbanRadioNetworks, if she will set up a meeting for him with the #CongressionalBlackCaucus. Then the POS asked if they ( #CBC) are friends of hers. This is coming from the person who holds the highest office in the country. There are no words to express the level of insult, disconnect, tone-deafness, arrogance, and stupidity this puppet has displayed. Much respect to #AprilRyan for maintaining her composure. #AprilRyan, who has covered the last four presidents for #AmericanUrbanRadioNetworks, told #TheWashingtonPost on Monday that Manigault, a #WhiteHouse communications official, threatened her both verbally and physically. “She stood right in my face like she was going to hit me,” Ryan told the Post. “I said, ‘You better back up.’ … She thought I would be bullied. I won’t be.” White House press secretary #SeanSpicer on Tuesday denied the charge that the administration is tracking reporters, but then awkwardly joked about it. “That is absolutely not true,” he said at the #WhiteHousepressbriefing. “There are no dossiers being kept — just a binder that I put right here. That’s about it.” “That was a joke,” he added. Ryan said the altercation took place near Spicer’s office last week, in front of several witnesses. Ryan told her after the incident that it could have warranted Secret Service intervention. #Manigault dismissed the story in an email to the Post, writing that it was “ #fakenews!” Ryan said that last fall, Manigault, with whom she used to be friends, questioned whether she was “a paid Clinton surrogate.” Manigault has previously claimed that #Trump’s team was “keeping a list” of his “enemies,” referring to #Republicans who had opposed Trump during his campaign. “It’s so great our enemies are making themselves clear so that when we get in to the White House, we know where we stand,” she told The Independent Journal Review at Trump’s victory party in November. “But let me just tell you, Mr. Trump has a long memory, and we’re keeping a list.”
