Second full day in Japan: Chichibu (Post 3/3) In the afternoon I went into Chichibu proper, and visited the Chichibu shrine, along with making stops at a liquor store to look for Japanese drinks to try, specifically for Sake and Japanese Whisky. However, upon going to the store I realized the only bottles there were positively massive! Given that I was unsure which I would like and which I would not, and that I would have to find a way to pack the bottle, I opted instead to get a Japanese gin to try with a much more manageable bottle size. Following the liquor store, I went to a grocery store where I found a much more reasonably sized peach flavored sake, which was delicious. Also I just realized I’d forgotten to speak about the shrine itself, which was in the middle of a very urban area, but also still managed to have a very nature-focused atmosphere. Naturally it was also busier than the Hodosan shrine, and for that reason alone I think I prefer Hodosan to this one, but I am glad I was able to go. On my way back from Chichibu, I also stopped by a park with a rope course in the trees, which I stopped to do. It was fun, but it was definitely built with the Japanese stature in mind. I am of average height in America, but here I must seem a giant to most, even being only 5’11”. Regardless I had a good time, and it was a fun experience. Once I got back to the place where I am staying, I had the chance to have a conversation with the woman hosting me and her son, and despite her not speaking English and me knowing only a few words of Japanese, we had a lovely conversation with the help of her son interpreting (he is fluent in both). It is always a treat for me to talk to people from other cultures and see where our experiences and views converge or differ. The after a while we had dinner, and it was some sort of breaded pork with a soy-based sauce, white rice, and cabbage. It was fantastic. I can’t help but feel lucky I get to even be here. Second full day in Japan: Chichibu (Post 2/3) After finishing my walk to the Hodosan shrine, I then took a guided boat tour down the river. It was fairly short, lasting about 20 minutes and I wish there hadn’t have been so many other tourists, but then again I am a tourist so I’ve little right to complain. I think if I were to do it again in an ideal world, I’d get a canoe or kayak and do it by myself, but I thoroughly enjoyed the experience regardless. #japan #japantrip #japantravel #americaninjapan #chichibu #chichiburiver

Second full day in Japan: Chichibu (Post 1/3) In the morning I woke up early to hike up what I assume to be Mount Hodosan (could be wrong though) to see the smaller Hodosan shrine on its peak. The walk getting there was about 40 minutes, possibly 50. It got fairly steep at some points, but then again, you are walking up a mountain. Of the two, I think the smaller Hodosan shrine on the peak was my favorite. If the shrine at the bottom seemed to act in deference to nature, the one on the peak seemed a part of it. The shrine itself is tucked away underneath a nearly unbroken canopy of leaves, with the foliage only breaking to provide views of the valley below. First full day in Japan: Chichibu. (Post 1/3) First few pictures are the views from the home I’m staying in (1-4). It is so beautiful here, there is a certain order to the beautiful overgrown hills and valleys. At ten in the morning we went to Wadono Orchards (5-7) with the owner, who was the only thing sweeter than the strawberries we picked. After about 30 minutes of strawberry heaven, we went with the owner of Wadono Orchards to a café tucked in the center of this beautiful valley (but not before stopping on the road to take a picture (8) of a beautiful poppy field!) called @shika_no_nedoko which I am told translates to english as “Deer Nest” or “Deer Bed” (videos 9-10). I am not overly fond of coffee which was the main offering, but I did have some Ichiro Malt Whisky with some ginger ale, and that was fantastic. I have a feeling I will be hard pressed to choose what I will take home for my two allowed bottles per person. The people working the café were extremely friendly, and I would love to come back when I am next in Chichibu. It sounds a bit trite but Japan is truly a magical place. I could happily disappear into the overgrown hills to live a simple life amongst the trees. Boy have my fingers been busy making these crocheted creations. The 1st photos are of honeybees originally designed by a woman/young mommy living in Australia named Rachael Fisher who goes by name @cute_crochet , but I wasn't sure how and who to tag as there is many people with the same title on Instagram. I will have to research to tag her properly. Anyways, her little toy honeybees are the cutest thing by yarn like acrylic or polyester, but I did mine using 2 thicknesses of cotton yarn. The other type of circle keychains using honeybee colors are origin design by me using pet bottle rings for the middles of each keychain. I looked on YouTube for similar keychains, but there wasn't any, so I simply came up with these adorable simple designed ones. やっとたのまれたリフォーム完成しました。友達がこのエコバッグすてます、それで私が〔待て、見せて何かへんしん新しいぽくなるけどほぼのままなおすできる、あまかせお願いします：魔法使いなおります！〕と言った。そして友達が〔ジャーお願いします魔法使い先生!〕ダイソーある生地エコバッグの中やぶれた場所助かったそしてその上に友達もらったハンカチその上の中で手縫いしました。その後1番長い時間手縫いがハンドバッグのハンドル。それが100円ショップセリアの着物バイアステープと黒いハンドル紐あわせて手縫いしました。写真楽しんで見てね。 The reforming request is finally finished.My friend was going to throw away her economic bag, but I said, “Wait, let me see that, I can change it like it's new again like magic but still leave most of it as is,let me try my magic ! ” And my friend replied, “Well in that case work your magic teacher !” Daiso store is where I got the nylon tape to fixing the inside of the economic bag, and the 100 yen store Seria I got the kimono bias tape and black handle string for the handbag handles.I combined them together with hand sewing. I ordered this zip-up hoodie in time for our second anniversary. But two months have passed since our anniversary and now we finally have my order. Because the first item that arrived was obviously not what I ordered, and when I told the person who took my order, she lied to me, and when I found out she lied, she decided to just ignore me. It took me a lot of time to fix this problem and it was very stressful. And the product we ended up with was also a little different from what I wanted. What country does that company belong to? Himeji Castle is a good example of why I try to plan flexibility into my trips. It's nearly impossible to truly understand things like geography and transport times until you're actually on the ground in your destinations. I never incorporated Himeji into my itinerary, but I saw the castle out the window of the Shinkansen from Hiroshima to Osaka and thought "Damn, I want to go there." Turns out it was only about an hour train ride from Osaka, very doable as a half day trip. @starbucks_j released their Sakura (cherry blossom) themed drinks, food, and items for purchase this week! Just today I was saying how much I missed the local Starbucks in Yokohama. It might seem funny to visit a chain we have at home while abroad (I certainly recommend visiting local cafes and roasters too!) But my love for Starbucks Japan runs deep. In my experience, I was amazed at the quality of the drinks, the variety and quality of the food (I can’t even compare how amazing it is to what’s offered at home), and how often they brought out beautiful new flavors (with the cutest gear to match). . I loved our local cafe so much, I wrote them a letter thanking them for their kindness before we moved alway💛. . Here’s my tip: The main roastery in Tokyo is along the Meguro River in Naka Meguro. It’s one of my very favorite areas to walk and where Ruthie was born! it’s also one of the most famous spots to see the cherry blossoms- the entire river is lined with them it’s stunning! It’s also incredibly busy when they start to bloom- Starbucks institutes a ticketing system just to get in and you may have to wait quite a while. If you want to experience the special sakura flavors without the wait (or as busy), head there now. I went exactly a year ago and while still busy, the ticket system wasn’t in play yet. Happy sipping ☕️!

Lately we’ve been watching @1611_hiro_r ‘s beautiful camping videos across Japan. They’re so peaceful and inspiring! It also has been making my heart miss Japan an awful lot these days. . It reminded me of our stay near Yumigahama Beach at @villa_yumigahama. While we didn’t do tent camping, we stayed at the most beautiful cabin right by the sea and barbecued, spent time at the ocean, and went for a little hike. It’s a beautiful train ride down the Izu peninsula- a few hours outside of Tokyo and Yokohama where we lived (see the map in the third picture). . During our stay, we stopped at a few local beaches for snorkeling and sitting out. We then grabbed some thinly sliced meat and vegetables to head to our stay.
