A close-up of Kaikula ⭐️🧡💙 The inspiration behind Kaikula stems from old-style Fair Isle yoke patterns. Many of these patterns shared a common feature: they only included a pattern at the upper part of the yoke. There was a reason for this! At one point, traditional Shetland Fair Isle sweaters became so popular that many knitters, as well as commercial manufacturers, started to think about ways to produce Fair Isle garments faster, as we all know hand-knitting takes a little time. So the industry - I call it this way as there is no resource to my knowledge who was the exact first designer who did this, but it seemed they came from everywhere all of a sudden in all different kinds of variations and patterns - came up with the idea to first machine-knit the bodies and then hand-knit the yokes. 🧶 This process was significantly faster, but it often resulted in a seam appearing directly under where the pattern starts, as this is where the machine has left off or in some cases started the progress. Kaikula draws inspiration from this specific detail. While this sweater is entirely knitted bottom-up and has an obvious modern Anna-Sofia Vintersol Style twist to it , I intentionally created a false seam just under the yoke to recreate the style. I found a favorite new cocktail bar/restaurant in the form of @sit.tite, located in the Arbor Lodge neighborhood of North Portland. While the name and menu might conjure a New Jersey vibe ala The Sopranos, the stellar food from B.J. Smith (former Smokehouse Tavern chef) and cocktails from Paul Francis (former GM at Culmination Brewing) are uniquely their own and simply amazing. While I had the Chicken Parm sandwich, which was superb, I otherwise had a Tequila Soda & Upright's Engelberg Pilsner - effectively missing out on what I'm told are some ridiculously good cocktails. They also feature a legit craft beer taplist, 6 pinball machines, a pool table, photo booth, TVs, and one of the largest back patios in Portland. It's not to be missed as they've got a little bit of everything for everyone, and they're doing it oh so well 🍻
