On the occasion of George Harrison’s debut gig with the Quarrymen and all decked out in western shirts, the group was approached by a couple of fans for a photograph. John, George and Paul readily agreed but drummer, Colin Hanton, in a bad mood about something and distractedly fiddling with his drumkit, ignored calls from the others to join them. A decision that Hanton regrets to this day. This is one of my favorite pieces in my collection. It’s a pair of aisle seats from CBS Studio 50, which is now known as the Ed Sullivan Theater. These seats were two of just over 700 in the theater when @thebeatles made history on February 9, 1964 with their live performance on the Ed Sullivan Show. Blue plaque alert; On 30 January 1969, the Beatles performed an impromptu concert from the rooftop of their Apple Corps headquarters at 3 Savile Row, in central London’s office and fashion district. Joined by guest keyboardist Billy Preston, the band played a 42-minute set before the Metropolitan Police arrived and ordered them to reduce the volume. It was the final public performance of their career. They performed nine takes of five new songs as crowds of onlookers, many on lunch breaks, congregated in the streets and on the rooftops of nearby buildings to listen. The concert ended with “Get Back”, and John Lennon joking, “I’d like to say thank you on behalf of the group and ourselves, and I hope we’ve passed the audition.” Image 3 shows the street level (circled in red) - and image 4 is where I took the next images from. Il 10 aprile 1970 in un comunicato stampa promozionale per il suo primo album da solista, che sarebbe uscito pochi giorni dopo, Paul McCartney ufficializzò lo scioglimento dei Beatles. Nello stesso giorno la Apple, in risposta alle dichiarazioni di Paul, rilasciò il seguente comunicato stilato dall’addetto stampa Derek Taylor: “La primavera è arrivata, il Leeds giocherà contro il Chelsea domani e Ringo, John, George e Paul sono vivi, vegeti e pieni di speranza. Il mondo gira ancora, lo stiamo facendo anche noi e anche voi.. Quando si fermerà, sarà il momento di preoccuparsi, non prima. Le “Apple Scruffs” erano un gruppo di devote fan dei Beatles che si ritrovavano fuori dall'edificio dell'Apple Corps e ai cancelli degli Abbey Road Studios di Londra durante la fine degli anni '60 nella speranza di vedere o interagire con uno dei membri della band. George Harrison ha scritto in loro onore la canzone "Apple Scruffs" che si trova nel suo album “All things must pass”. In generale, le Scruffs erano una presenza molto benevola e apprezzata dai Beatles con un'unica eccezione: quando alcune di loro irruppero in casa di Paul McCartney e rubarono alcune cose. Il 6 aprile 1966 i Beatles si recarono agli Abbey Road Studios per iniziare a incidere il nuovo album “Revolver”. Il primo brano che registrarono fu “Tomorrow never knows”, intitolata inizialmente “Mark 1”. La base della versione finale fu la terza, l'ultimo tentativo della giornata. La traccia ritmica conteneva la batteria di Ringo, il basso di Paul e il tamburello di George. John ha poi aggiunto la sua voce solista, che è stata filtrata attraverso un organo Hammond Leslie. Geoff Emerick: “Ricordo la sorpresa sui nostri volti quando la voce uscì dall'altoparlante. Puro stupore.
