Hello friends! Today, I am excited to tell you more about Gamers for CHOC! This past Wednesday I had the pleasure and honor of meeting up with some of the Gamers for CHOC teams at CHOC Children’s and touring the hospital together. I even got to draw the Gamers for CHOC logo and Choco Bear at CHOC, which was super cool (my drawings are usually on my own driveway)! This was an incredible reminder about why we do this work. The facilities are amazing and so thoughtfully designed to make the space comfortable, inviting, and fun for kids. The work that is done, the programs designed to honor and preserve childhood, and the incredible kindness present at every turn are so inspiring. CHOC is a local hospital in Orange County, CA, but one that actually serves the world. Because of the many specialties there, patients from around the globe in need of specialty care find their way to CHOC. Beyond that, CHOC’s Research Institute has advanced groundbreaking treatments and innovations that have impacted lives globally and pushed scientific knowledge forward for all of us. So wherever you may be, you and folks you care about are likely impacted by CHOC. The power of the gaming community and industry to make a positive difference in the world is limitless, and the folks who are participating in Gamers for CHOC are absolutely wonderful! Hello friends! Rain and work have kept me from drawing, so here is another throwback to last year. I learned some good lessons about color drawing this. Dug just met you, and he already loves you! Happy Friday all! It has been super difficult to find time to chalk (and now more rain is coming tomorrow), so I’m posting a favorite from the past. Dreamhaven is the amazing organization that got me into fundraising for @chocchildrens and I had the distinct pleasure of getting to work with their leadership this week (an extraordinary group). I especially loved the way the sun came up just as I got to the light in the lighthouse for this one. I cannot say enough good things about the folks at Dreamhaven. They are the driving force behind the fact that Gamers for CHOC has now raised more than $400,000 for CHOC, and why this little Chalk for CHOC community has raised over $40,000! We want to keep driving those numbers higher for the amazing work CHOC does to serve kids and families in the most trying of circumstances, while they ensure that childhood is preserved, honored, and celebrated! One of the downsides of sidewalk chalk art is that I’m at the mercy of the elements. I had hoped I’d be drawing a Chocobo this morning, but it’s all wet, so here is a 2022 throwback. We have raised about $2000 so far, which is amazing, but we have a long way to go to the goal of $15K. So far this year we have just over 20 donors, compared to more than 300 in past years, so we should still have a lot of growth potential. Sixty years ago, @chocchildrens opened as Orange County, California’s first children’s hospital. It’s grown from 62 beds into a world-class pediatric health care system serving more than 2 million kids in four counties—providing services without regard to a family’s ability to pay. The CHOC mission statement: To nurture, advance and protect the health and well-being of children. That’s why the wahine and I first donated through the @chocfoundation CHOC Walk about a decade ago. We’re walking this year on July 21 and would like your support to help raise money for this worthy cause. Our goal is always the moon, but we know people get pulled in many different directions, so $400 is the minimum that we’re shooting for. If it goes way beyond that, all the better. When the state of California shut restaurants and bars at the start of the pandemic, we organized a fundraiser that gave out-of-work employees of our neighborhood tiki bar, VenTiki, more than $15,000. Perhaps you have a child who’s been helped by CHOC or a similar facility. Perhaps you know a family whose child is in good health today because of CHOC or another such hospital. It’s TUESDAY TRIVIA day! Last week we were privileged to take a little trip to the Disneyland Hotel to celebrate the upcoming Choc Walk happening this summer at Disneyland! Every year the Children’s Hospital of Orange County partners with Disneyland to raise money to continue to provide life saving treatment to kiddos. Did you know that Walt Disney himself was an integral part of the conception of CHOC? He worked with a small group of pediatricians in Orange County to bring a children’s hospital to their growing community. The Choc Walk this year is July 21- will I see you there?! The CHOC Walk is back, so I am once again thanking donors with drawings through Chalk for CHOC! While I can’t wait to contribute all I am able to this amazing organization, I do need to pace myself a little differently this year. Getting up early to draw, and unfortunately, having to sacrifice regular exercise to make it happen, took a toll on my health last year. I am trying to find a better way to balance things to keep thanking all of the incredible donors, but to reduce the number of drawings I am doing to a more manageable and sustainable level. To kick things off, my best idea so far is to do the following: - Donations of $100 or more will get a guaranteed sidewalk chalk drawing of the animated or video game character of their choice - Donations of less than $100 will be entered in a drawing and each week I will select two to receive a drawing of their choice - Of course donations without drawing requests are also very welcome. Last week on Sunday 03/10/24, we had the pleasure of attending the ANAHEIM DUCKS CHOC DAY to watch the Ducks take on the NY Islanders. We had such a great time meeting amazing people and staff including @alylozoff @team_kailualani @randstarr @georgia_onmymind @em_bartlett @wendykiku @zacmoon37 To our surprise, Kara was invited to do a 3:30 min segment with hosts @kent_french and Guy Hebert during the Ducks Pregame show Live to discuss the events of the @anaheimladyducks Fashion Show earlier that week on 03/03/24 in support of @chocfoundation It has been an memorable experience and an honor to represent CHOC and to share our story of how CHOC has benefitted our lives and the countless number of other lives of their patients. #chocwalk #anaheimDucks

We met this year’s CHOC Ambassador, Kara Nguyen and her family. Kara was born with a rare condition that affected her breathing and needed care at @chocchildrens from the moment she was born. She is now a thriving almost-13 year old who sells crafts every year to raise money for CHOC Walk! @teamsuperkaraandfriends_4choc I also got an autograph from @jeffgranitodesigns who designed this year’s logo, and got to rub elbows with two celebrities - Mickey and Choco Bear. And now, a special announcement … due to my health I will not be leading a CHOC Walk team this year. It breaks my heart to make this decision after 10 years of our team, but I had to skip the walk last year because I was sick and I felt awful about it. I just need to focus on my health this year. Hopefully I can recover so we can all walk together next year! A huge thank you to all the team members over the years, and my endless gratitude to anyone who has donated.
