My thrifted beauties! *HOME ALONE 2 for Game Boy: 9.4/A+ (Highest graded copy on the census & the only Suite 107 address copy without the promotional/hype stickers) *GEMFIRE for SNES: 9.6/A+ (Highest graded copy on the census, previous was a 9.6/B) *SMACKDOWN 2 for PS1: 9.6/A+ (Highest graded copy on the census & the only Greatest Hits variant) Pretty happy with the results, minus a few quibbles.... I was convinced the SD2 was a 9.8/A++ before it left, but it now has a smudge across the Rock's forehead that was not there in the pre-grading pics (by me or WATA). Can't tell if it is on the inside of the WATA case or on the game seal, but if it is, it is likely what knocked off a +. Kinda regret having the minor cleaning done. It really didn't need it, and it just offered another opportunity to be handled. Lesson learned. The tiny scuff/dent near the exclamation mark (which I was aware of) likely graded more harshly than I anticipated and caused the drop to 9.6 because there were no other flaws on this thing. The other 2 came out just as expected. 👍👍 Overall, a great experience & quick turnaround from @watagames . I really love the new cases as well. 🎩 WATA HAT TRICK 🎩 Last week, I took advantage of the sale that WATA was having on Speed Run submissions and sent out my top three games needing to get graded. Well, I just saw the results...and boy am I pleased! All 3 came back as the HIGHEST graded copies on the WATA census! The Smackdown 2: KYR stands alone as the highest graded copy of the game, as well as the only Greatest Hit's variant on the census. 😁 There is 1 more 9.6 Gemfire out there, but it has a B seal (currently on eBay, missing a huge chunk). The 9.4 A+ Home Alone 2 will be the only copy on the census with a Suite 107 address, but no "Lost in New York" promo sticker on the back (1st print, late production). I believe there is one more 9.4 A+ in this variation somewhere out there, but it was graded by CGC. The only slight surprise/disappointment is on the Smackdown copy, which I thought would be a 9.8. Will be interested in seeing the graders notes on what I may have missed. While celebrating our 10 year anniversary this past week, the wife and I took a little road trip to the Janesville, WI area yesterday for some Salvation Army/thrift hunting and had to stop and pay respects to the Mecca of Toys. The SA utilizes the attached building next door, which I believe was originally a Kids 'R Us expansion. 🤔 It's funny, because one of my most frequented SA Family Stores (Cherry Valley, IL), used to be my local Toys 'R Us when I was a kid. ROOKIE POSTER (1984) 🏀 I recently started selling my amazing vintage Chicago Bulls memorabilia from my childhood (except for a few key pieces I wanted to hang on to) because they had been packed away for so long and were not able to be enjoyed. She had my buddy Pete run out with my early Christmas gift (he is a fellow collector/seller) of this amazing The Fall Guy lunchbox (w/Thermos!). I missed a recent opportunity to grab one when I saw it recently, and she made note of it and reached out to Pete, since this is right up his alley. He happened to have one. 👁💦🪦 ISOYG WIZARD BETAMAX BIG BOX? 👁💦🪦 Ok, so here's a weird one for you tapeheads out there. Snagged this amazing big box "I Spit On Your Grave", from the most recent BKV sale, but I was a bit confused by it. To my knowledge, all Betamax copies came in the yellow-border, Beta-sized, full-flaps slipcase...& every copy I had seen came with a 2-tone tape w/ a white guard & had a catalog # of 016. Wizard Video migrated to big boxes, from slipcases, several years into their existence (they were more popular at the video stores), so the box is nothing terribly surprising. This is, in fact, a repurposed VHS big box (I removed one of the BETA stickers to verify underneath), but it has an all black Scotch premium BETA tape that has the later variant square label with the new catalog # of 062 (same 1 the later release big box VHS tape would have). It could be that the tan clamshell it is in was introduced by the video store (the big box VHS came in a plain black clamshell, so I would find it odd that the BETA did not), and I initially thought maybe the BETA stickers could have been added by the store as well...but it is the variant label on the tape that PROVES this is a legit, late release Betamax copy of ISOYG. This was not a case of Silver Screen Video just labeling a VHS big box as BETA & placing an existing ISOYG tape in the box, since the tape label is the same as the big box VHS release. But I can't find another copy like this one and have never been aware of it even existing before. Anyone seen this particular later release on Betamax before? Did I just miss the boat on this one, or is this something that is truly as rare as it appears to be? Let me know your thoughts! 📼 EPIC VHS HAUL 📼 Big thanks goes out to the man, the myth, the legend @bloodyknifevideo for meeting up with me yesterday, so I could get my grubby hands on this sweet haul of tapes I claimed at his last couple sales. It was great chatting with you man, as always, and I appreciate the great deals...as well as the tips & advice! Got a few other tapes sprinkled in that were from a couple thrift spots we hit yesterday as well, but if it's a banger, it came from BKV. 😁 Some of the highlights: Videodrome (MCA rainbow), Savage Streets (to match my Beta), Dawn of the Dead (Thorn EMI w/two-tone), Blazing Saddles (WB clam w/purple label tape) & Enter the Dragon (my final needed copy to complete the VHS variants). ✨️ NEW BOOTH VIBES ✨️ Spent all day yesterday setting up our new combined booth in Aisle C, booth 133. This replaces our most recent Bulls/bar decor/sports booth and will be the new home of Geek'd Out going forward. Our original booth in Aisle F, booth 16 will remain ours, but will be utilized to sell off some more general merchandise we have been stockpiling in storage. This gives us more room to work with and while it is a bit more towards the middle of the store and may take a little more effort before you see us, it may help with some of the problems we have had. We've always wanted to add more collectible glassware, but have been leery to do so in such a toy-centric booth. Sadly, we have had lots of issues with unsupervised children tearing through our booth like tornadoes. We get it, we sell toys. Kids love toys. But it is disheartening when you can spend so much time merchandising a space to try and bring in eyeballs, then 10 mins after you leave the store 1 unsupervised child can cause that space to be a mess for several days before we can get back in to clean it up, ruining the experience for others. Unfortunate, because we always want a stop at Geek'd Out to be a clean, pleasant and fruitful one, (and love seeing the reactions to our items, from young and old! Say hi on the camera!) but if it is a mess or items are shoved in places they don't belong, etc...that is less likely, as is finding a goodie you might be after. Maybe we will see less of that, being a little farther into the long haul that is Hidden Treasures, as most people shop from F-A, not the other way around. 🪛🔨IF YOU REBUILD IT, THEY WILL COME BACK🔨🪛 The toys will be home soon...and the basement will be better than ever! Started replacing the shelving in the Geek'd Out home theater, after the flood nonsense. Decided to go with wall mounted shelves instead, so in case there is ever a water issue again...everything is high & dry. 🫡 I should be done hanging by tonight, then just need to get them all leveled/tweaked/secured to the brackets. I'll start repopulating them after my guy Jeff comes to check/replace any suspect water fittings tomorrow. I also replaced all the floor trim with PVC laminate trim, so it is literally waterproof. Could be a theatrical promo standee (released in 1976) for the snack counter/ticket booth, but I cannot find any info on it. Personally, I would guess this to be from the 1985 Walt Disney Home Video release of The Shaggy D.A. on VHS/Betamax. There was also a Laserdisc release in the late 90's as well, but it had much different asthetics than this promotional piece. Love the artwork on this one. 🐢 FLEA MARKET HAUL PT.2 🐢 Now THIS is getting into the good stuff! Anyone ever seen one of these?! Me neither! 😅 When even @outatime80sretroshop hasn't seen one, you know it's rare. There are fairly common vintage TMNT framed mirrors featuring each individual turtle, as well as a very rare 5' full body mirror/growth chart (it is AMAZING), but I have never seen this one. 😍 Dated 1990, it is roughly the size of all 4 of the individual turtle mirrors put together, at 2'x1.5'. It features a semi-common Turtles image, seen on items like the toy chest, etc. It is in fantastic condition. 🔥 NINTENDO NES ACTION SET (CIB) 🔥 Last week, I was able to upgrade my CIB NES Action Set that I snagged last year. 😁 Found another near CIB at the Midnight Flea Market that was in better shape, box wise, and had more components included. Did some mixing and matching to make the best version for a keeper (they were identical versions), and the other one went to the showcase for sale. The gloss on this one is immaculate! Other than normal wear, it only has one scuff on the back and a small area of wear on the bottom. 😍 This one is now only missing the bags for the controllers & AC adapter, but has everything else, including all inserts. Most of them went to the garage, but I decided to use one of them to expand/relocate my sealed VHS/DVD/Media collection. 🪠 SMB MOVIE TAPE/3D POSTER 🔧 Not the Super Mario Bros. Movie you were thinking. 🤣 Mercari snag. Case fresh & sealed w/poster, audio cassette & 3D glasses. Saw this one in the theater as a kid. At the time, I loved it for what it was. Was just cool to see something I was so obsessed with be taken seriously by other people. Gaming was only a niche back then. The movie was actually kinda terrible, but it was a product of the times. Honestly, the only thing I would change is how the failure affected Nintendo's stance on farming out their IP's afterward. Damn shame that they were so afraid to take another chance for so long. 🥺 The wife and I went to see the new SMB Movie on opening day...and it was a pure delight. Haven't smiled like that in years. Big old cheesy grin the whole time. Props to Illumination for maintaining so much reverence for the rules of the games. 🎮 1979 MB MICROVISION 🎮 Ladies & gentlemen...I give you the very first cartridge based videogame handheld...the Milton Bradley Microvision. 😁 Created by Jay Smith, the creator of the Vectrex, this little gem was the precursor to & inspiration for the Nintendo Game Boy. And it beat it to market by 10 whole years! Sadly, the Microvision's initial success was met with a dearth of games, which ultimately killed it's run by 1981. Should be an easy collection to complete...as only 12 games were released for it...and one of them came with it (Block Buster)! When Nintendo used the Microvision as it's template for a handheld of their own, they built around the successful ideas it brought and purposely avoided it's weaknesses. This particular unit is truly CIB and in perfect condition. It has Block Buster & Baseball cartridges in the box. 💥 1977 Han Solo Blaster 💥 Another grail down. 😍 Never owned an original DL-44, when I had my first big Star Wars collection, or even as a kid. I do have one of the orange Star Tours souvenir blasters, from the pre-Disney days, but those pale in comparison. This one works, is SUPER CLEAN, and just missing one of the knobs for the battery door. Should be easy enough to replace.
