“Tex und das Geheimnis der Todesgrotten” VHS In der “Movie Night Film Challenge” zum Thema “Spaghetti Western”, habe ich mich mit dem Film “Tex und das Geheimnis der Todeshöhlen” (Alternativtitel) beschäftigt. Die VHS-Version des Italo-Western lockt mit einem eindeutig an Indiana Jones angelehnten Look und täuscht so den interessierten Filmfreund. Tatsächlich gibt es einige wenige Abenteuerfilm-Elemente, doch das Aussehen des Hauptdarstellers im Indy-Look inklusive schwingender Peitsche ist plumper Etikettenschwindel. Wenn man das weiß, kann man das Artwork allerdings sehr wohl genießen: Mir gefällt es ausgesprochen gut. Ich habe mir die VHS als Dekostück noch nachgekauft. Vom ursprünglichen Aussehen der Comicfigur Tex Willer mit seinem charakteristischen gelben Hemd ist im Film schon wenig übrig geblieben. Auf dem VHS-Cover bleibt davon so gut wie gar nichts. Niemand würde hinter diesem Cover einen Italo-Western vermuten, viel eher einen Abenteuerfilm im Stil eines Raiders-Rip Offs. Pandemonium is a 1982 American parody slasher film. It was directed by Alfred Soleand features an ensemble cast including Tom Smothers, Eileen Brennan, Phil Hartman, Tab Hunter, Carol Kane, David Lander, Eve Arden, and Paul Reubens. This Airplane!-styled spoof of slasher movies has its moments but is ultimately more bizarre than it is funny. The script takes a shotgun approach to humor, mixing genre-specific humor with the kind of gags that could pop up in any comedy. Some of the gags are truly clever (example: the Royal Canadian Mounted Police investigate the murders, a nod to the fact that many slasher films were shot in Canada) but those gags are outmatched by scenes involving humdrum grossout humor and other scenes that are just plain bizarre, like a death by electric toothbrush and a throwaway gag about bestiality. That said, director Alfred Sole keeps the film moving at a breezy pace and gives it a surprising amount of horror-film atmosphere for the jokes to bounce off of. Pandemonium further benefits from strong comic performances: Carol Kane uses deadpan wit to impressive effect as the “final girl” heroine, Paul Reubens turns in a deliriously eccentric turn as the main cop’s sidekick and the supporting cast includes everyone from Judge Reinhold to Tab Hunter. These dolls are from Play by Play Quick story on the founder of Play by Play toys- Arturo Torres left his native Cuba for America in 1961 wanting to be a cowboy, Instead found a job at Pizza Hut in Texas. His determination took him from the kitchen to the board room. By the 1980s he operated 240 Pizza Huts and Taco Bells. Torres founded Play by Play Toys in 1986 as a vending machine prize supplier.
