Was super excited when I heard that the uncle of the famous Jalan Batai Char Koay Teow has recently came out from his retirement. It was more than a year ago when he suddenly retired, and I thought I would never get to eat his delicious CKT anymore. So few days ago I drove 20 minutes deep into Taman Sri Muda in Shah Alam to satisfy my craving. 20 years ago he was this grumpy unfriendly uncle, but now he has become a super friendly grandpa. As usual, after frying my plate of goodness he sat down at my table and we reminisced his olden days, and also share some life lessons. Priceless. And of course, the wonderful CKT itself. Full of wok hei, you still get all the fundamental ingredients of a good CKT. 52 years of experience, this man should be declared a national treasure. Char Kuey Teow Jalan Batai at Klang. This is by far my most favourite ckt mainly cos it is fluffy and not oily minus that rubbery kuey teow texture. And also it does not have black burnt food from continuous frying from the same wok. When you can’t go to the omakase, make the omakase come to you~! Well, as omakase-ish as you can make it. The few things I can look forward to during these trying times are Sushi Kazu’s take away menu. . I grabbed the Kazu Sashimi Bento (RM88++) to sate my raw fish craving. You get a good variety of sashimi, charashi don, grilled fish, miso soup and salad with this set. . For the sashimi, I got two slices of otoro, two slices of amberjack, a slice of akami and two pieces of ebi. The otoro was wonderfully creamy and fatty and the ebi was delightfully sweet and fresh. . The chirashi don comes with a generous assortment of lovely fish, bursting globes of ikura and sweet tamago. Kazu’s chirashi don is something I order during every lockdown and I love the balance of sweet and savoury it brings to the plate. . The bento also comes with two slices of unagi and some grilled halibut that I don’t think you get in the chirashi bento set. Chef Shibata makes fantastic miso soup that is rich with seafood flavour and I was glad to have a small cup of it included in the set. . @sushikazu.kl knocks it out of the park with the variety and value you get with this set. . Yellow Brick Road, Damansara Heights RM52 for this meal Pork-free, no alcohol Alright cozy meal. I think it was a public holiday when The Skinny Hungry visited here. I think we queued for quite a long time, possibly an hour. This time I let my friend choose for me, and I got Teriyaki Salmon Rice Bowl. It was a nice meal, warm rice, fresh salmon, and what I really liked was that it wasn't drenched wet in sauce. The pickles were salty, so that's good. My mixed berry lemonade was alright, pretty refreshing. Had bits and bobs of berry pieces, but would've been better with more.

It is times like this we truly appreciate every scoop and bite of the simple things in life. Thank God. 😆 The fresh juicy prawns and the little to no MSG are the highlights of this meal. Though the meal could use more flavour in terms of its saltiness and spice.

So this post is looooong overdue, The Skinny Hungry visited this place all the way back in February. Not knowing what to order, I requested for recommendations, and I was suggested the XO Ramen. It was very interesting, the noodles were thick and springy ans chewy, the way I love my noodles. It was savoury, very peppery, a little funky, but interesting. If I'm not wrong the dumplings had foie gras and/or duck in it. I remember I liked it a lot. It was also quite doughy which I kinda liked, and the taste was the bomb! The savoury fatty flavour was intense. Yums! For desserts, the waiter offered me something off the menu, which was a fried ice cream sandwich. Couldn't remember what flavour was it, but the deep fried buns were crunchy and not soggy. I did like this too. Had a glass of white wine to accompany my meal, it was alright. Actually attempted to visit after the lockdown was lifted, but they were packed. Hope to visit again soon!
The Skinny Hungry just came home from one of my favourite restaurants and favourite dish. But it's an unfortunate meal. The beef was juicy, but couldn't taste much since the rice had flavour as well. Everything else was not fragrant, even the truffle. The fried garlic kinda overpowered everything. No cocktails, no card, only cash. Quite the saddest 80 buck I've spent in recent times. At least the orange juice was sweet.
