At the Karoo Winter Wool Festival, we had the privilege of experiencing one of the most cherished weeks of the year on a sheep farm — shearing time. 🐑 Shearing takes place approximately three times in a two-year cycle. Each shearer works tirelessly, shearing anywhere from 50 to an impressive 100 sheep a day. In a ritual that dates back generations, shepherds place stones or bean tokens, known as lootjies, in containers or on shelves, for each sheep sheared by them. This process is just the beginning of the remarkable journey that wool embarks on from the farm to a beautifully finished product.
