Pardon our dust! Hidden Oaks Nature Center and the surrounding preserve are closed for construction, and we are excited about all the changes underway both inside and outside. The renovations will include converting a classroom to an exhibit gallery, new programming space, updated rental space, a new shade structure outdoors and an accessible outdoor path leading to the amphitheater and nature playscape. Tuesday, April 23rd thru Friday, April 26th, the center of Darrell’s Dream Boundless Playground at Warriors’ Path State Park will be closed for restoration. The structure is known as the General Shale / Kiwanis Crossroads Memorial Exhibit. The playground will remain open, only the roped off area In the center will be off limits. The Friends of Warriors with the help of Lost Brick Art, Dougherty Creations and Construction will be providing much needed repairs and maintenance as the structure is now 17 years old. Special thanks to General Shale’s donation and a grant from the State of Tennessee, Tennessee Arts Commission. Friends of Warriors’ is so grateful to have partnered with General Shale and Engage Kingsport to make this project possible! We are very fortunate to have someone with Johnny Hagerman’s talent to turn brick into such Amazing sculptures. Johnny’s company, Lost Art Brick is based out of Southwest Virginia. He was involved in the original design and now he and his son Travis are helping us again with restoration efforts. When the playground opened 17 years ago, the General Shale / Kiwanis Crossroads Memorial Exhibit won an award for its design and engineering. *CONSTRUCTION & UNOPEN RIDE* update for Lagoon! 👷‍♀️🏗️🚧 In addition to enjoying myself immensely on opening day at Lagoon by riding coasters, eating at Biergarten, and watching my son frolic around Kiddyland, I also made sure to check in on the construction progress of the area destroyed by the 2021 fire (the candy shop and the “Scamper” bumper car ride for kids), the area where the former Log Flume ride was recently removed, as well as any rides not yet open for the season… Pics/Video 1-4: There were no obvious signs of work being done on an immediate replacement for Log Flume, but I was encouraged by the sign. The video I took shows quite a large parcel of empty land, and I’m excited for what’s to come! Any ideas? Pics 5-7: It was wild to see Samurai in pieces like this as they wait on the late arrival of a part! Pics 8-9: I sure hope they get the missing part for Turn of the Century soon, as it’s one of my son’s favorite flat rides at the park. This area looked so empty without it! Video 10: I must admit that I was surprised to see the area destroyed by the fire still walled off and (seemingly) not close to being finished. Since the fire happened in 2021, nothing happened during the 2022 season, and a new ice cream + candy shop combo was teased in signage throughout the 2023 season, I definitely expected something shiny and new in this space on opening day! I look forward to seeing this new area come to fruition and REALLY hope they bring back “Scamper” in time for my son to still be small enough to ride it one more time🤞 For anyone else who was at Lagoon on opening day: Did I miss anything? What thoughts and theories did you have walking around?

Today I visited our new build Lakehouse project that we’ve been working with a repeat client on since the end of last year. They hired us to assist with all of the finish and fixture selections, as well as the furnishings design. The flooring, cabinetry, and countertops are in. Tile has begun, too and most of the lighting has been installed. It’s so amazing to see what’s been a picture in my mind and on a computer screen for so long coming to life before my eyes! That lighter blue cabinetry in the pantry, mud room and primary bathroom is my favorite color in the entire blue palette! It's throwback time! Remember March 2020 when we shut our front doors, went windowside, set out an outdoor market under tents, ran our cafe food & drink menus still, but also remodeled inside at the same time?? 🙃🙃🙃🙃 Welll we're trying it again, this time minus the covid part! 😉🙏... While we're not building or knocking walls down this time, we're switching things up a bit! Starting this week we are SO excited to begin work inside the shop to make some new changes, update some areas , and create new spaces! But to do so,... we're taking this next week as a true 2020 throwback! 🙃🙃🙃 Starting tomorrow afternoon through Saturday, we're shutting the front doors 🚪 , staying open for windowside service 🪟 for our food & drink menus AND taking our market items for a sale under the tents! Inside the shop we'll be making some changes in the market, pairing down some of our excess offerings & focusing in on some customer favorites. We'll be moving seating around a bit, freshening up paint, & hanging a bit more lighting. Our barista area will get a full change around, our kitchen & prep room with have some updates and a new floor! There will be lots of new organizing behind the scenes to streamline products & processes as well. You'll see some updates outside the shop coming the following week too! ☺️ Our hours this week will still be 7am-7pm & you'll be able to order all food & drink via windowside or by calling ahead (490-1234 ☎️). My house is literally falling apart. Paint is peeling, appliances aren’t fully functioning, a window just cracked…..I could go on forever.
