With today being the 41st anniversary of The Hunger being released into theaters, I figured I’d share this short excerpt from David J’s book “Who Killed Mister Moonlight” about Bauhaus’ appearance in the film. Their appearance comes at the very beginning of the film with the band miming to “Bela Lugosi’s Dead.” Only Peter is entirely visible onscreen. If you haven’t read David J’s book, I highly recommend doing so as it is a fascinating read! David J is both humorous and erudite in the way he writes. I was blown away by his recollection of conversations when I read “Who Killed Mister Moonlight.” A must-read if you are a fan of Bauhaus!

Finally, I’ve attended the iF DESIGN AWARD ceremony! The most touching part to me was that I saw my role model Dieter Rams today!! (who gained the life achievement award this year, absolutely deserve it!) It’s a huge surprise and encouragement to me seeing him in person on stage and hearing him speak 🥺🥹 (what a pity that I couldn’t grab him for a personal photo😭) He’s been my role model since my early stage of design career and his works and mindset have been influencing me a lot, which somehow also reflected in my works (if you can tell😏). I totally agree with what he shared, what he shared echoed exactly the philosophy of THINKTHING ! Mad Men meets the future. I stayed at the first zero-emissions hotel in the U.S., @hotel_marcel_newhaven, last month. This restored Brutalist landmark is now 100 percent electric and 100 percent solar powered. Hotels talk about reducing or offsetting their carbon footprint—Hotel Marcel doesn’t have one. The New Haven hotel uses zero fossil fuels and has over 1100 solar panels on the roof and carport which houses 24 EV chargers. What I loved the most about this hotel was that it renovated a landmark instead of building something new. This historic Brutalist building was built in the 1960s by modernist architect Marcel Breuer (he designed the old Whitney Art Museum) and it became an office building for a tire company before it was abandoned for nearly 20 years. Even though it’s a model for the future, it still retains its mid-century modern character— and even its original 1960s light fixtures. A half-century after it was built it still evokes the Bauhaus “less is more” design approach. I stayed in what used to be the chairman’s office which has now has new comforts like a Japanese soaking tub. April 29, 1983 🖤 The Hunger is a 1983 British film directed by Tony Scott in his directorial debut, starring Catherine Deneuve, David Bowie and Susan Sarandon. The film is a loose adaptation of the 1981 novel of the same name by Whitley Strieber, with a screenplay by Ivan Davis and Michael Thomas. Its plot concerns a love triangle between a doctor who specialises in sleep and ageing research (Sarandon) and a vampire couple (Deneuve and Bowie). The film's special effects were handled by make-up effects artist Dick Smith. After premiering at the 1983 Cannes Film Festival, The Hunger was released in the spring of 1983 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. New Stock ✅ Roland Rainer Bauhaus for WK Möbel Vienna Dark Green Leather 3 Seater Sofa £1,495 A late 1950s, possibly early 1960s Bauhaus inspired dark green 3 seater sofa by Roland Rainer for WK Möbel in Vienna, Austria. The leather is a very dark green, not black, which has been cleaned and treated. Legs made of chromed square steel, fitted with loose cushions with button stitching. Rainer completed numerous architectural projects in Austria, including the Austrian National Library in Vienna, one of the most remarkable buildings of its time. He is also known for his large-scale social housing projects, such as the Vogelweide housing complex in Vienna, which has been considered an example of functionalist modernism. As a designer, Rainer worked for the Austrian company Thonet and created several pieces of furniture, including the 860 modular chair, which became very popular in the 1960s. This chair was characterized by its modularity, allowing users to combine it in different ways to suit their needs. Rainer received numerous awards for his work throughout his career, including the Grand Prize for Architecture from the Austrian Academy of Sciences in 1971 and the Austrian Grand Prize for Architecture in 1983.
