Bottom of the Harbour Abstract (Blue) A customer came up with the idea of putting a white border on this piece, and I love how it looks I originally made the piece with no border. The design started life as a feature mural by a pool in Mt Hawthorn, and I loved the look so much I have recreated it here as a ready-to-hang woodblock print. I call it Bottom of the Harbour Abstract (Blue). It also has a cousin called Bottom of the Harbour Abstract (Gold), which you can see in some of the photos. The original brief was to create a mural to sit alongside an infinity edge pool at the rear of a beautifully remodelled character home. I drew this watery theme with deep aqua tones to match the pool, and a busy mash of colours to complement its surrounding vegetation. I have rendered the piece you see here into a 9mm thick marine timber panels with zero-emission inks. It is drop-dead gorgeous, with the swirling timber grain of the panel coming through to form part of the design and give it a warm rugged look. Moreover, the panel will last forever. The timber is a sturdy hardwood and the inks are UV proofed to never fade. It’s all about choosing wood with the right grain and inks that are up to the task. Perth Folk and Roots Club is also working with Act Belong Commit in recognition of music’s contribution to mental wellbeing. Blues ConFusion was formed in 2013 after Phil Bourgault (guitars and song writer) met Debs Gill (vocals) at the Hills Blues Club. They have recorded and released two albums and an EP and their music is available on most online music streaming services. Midnight Francine is a dedicated storyteller who writes songs of love, tragedy and longing with an honesty that is both beautiful and compelling. For this event, Perth Folk and Roots Club has two great supporters of the Club, Dilip Parekh Solo and SilvaDee Music. Dilip Parekh is an Indian Irishman from Fremantle who is a singer/songwriter that has established himself as one of Western Australia’s finest songwriters. Dilip is also widely known as the front man for high energy band - Dilip n the Davs. Silva Dee is a hard working musician who has been performing solo and in many bands nationally and internationally including the Freo Grasshoppers from 2007. VALENTINE'S DAY SPECIAL: Lotus Pond with Bird and Flowers: Vintage Botanical Printed in Timber These panels are from three of eight traditional Chinese hanging scrolls attributed to Gao Jianfu (1879–1951). The price is for all three panels - $149 (normally $249) The original panels are a faded beige and green, in the style of Southern Song Dynasty compositions of the 12th and 13th centuries. I stripped the patina from the aged paper then turned up the blues and reds to give these panels an electric shimmer. Using zero-emission inks, I then rendered them directly into the face of locally sourced hardwoods. The subtle swirling pattern of the wood grain comes through just enough to work with the picture, complementing the curves of the pen. This pop of joy is a recolouring of one of my favourite pieces. Based on the paintings of Austrian great Gustav Klimt, I originally drew it to a brief for a character home in North Perth. Loving the result so much, I re-created it by rendering zero-emission inks into locally sourced timbers. Now I've messe daorund with teh colours again to bring out purples and bright greens. The subtle swirling pattern of the wood grain comes through just enough to work with the picture without overpowering it. The inks have a lifetime anti-fade guarantee and this piece comes ready to hang, with high-tension hanging wire attached to the back - no need to frame. Taking enormous liberties with Klimt's works, I’ve stripped back their patinas, dialled back the greens and yellows and brought forward the blues and reds. I’ve then used each as a separate palette, dabbing in highlights and colour from here and there to form this whole. Klimt’s bold glamour and softened detail work so well in timber.
