For #seabirdsunday (is that actually a thing yet?) I’ve steered away from penguin and back to Albatross but as with my last it’s not just your average albatross. I give to you two Albatross Almanac books one of which amazingly still has its original belly band. HAVE YOU SEEN THESE BEFORE?? Why Almanac you might wonder……….well at least I did, so I had a little google and found the meaning of Almanac: •Abook containing a calendar of days, weeks, and months and usually facts about the rising and setting of the sun and moon, changes in the tides, and information of general interest. I guess they have covered some of this as you can see by the pictures as both books have a calendar year over 4 pages showing star signs and naming any special dates. These elegant terns are #CoupleGoals. I'm not just saying they're elegant because I made them, that's actually the name of the species. They are migratory seabirds found on the West Coast of North and South America. Their courtship dance involves lowering their wings and raising their beaks together. I made this little pair with a heart-shaped sand island to sit on. Maybe this would make a nice present for your other half; for a lovely couple you know; or for yourself, because you deserve elegant terns in your life.
Around Shetland - Puffins, in Shetland, we call them Tammy Norries. They migrate back to Shetland this time of year, and down at the Sumburgh Head Lighthouse is a great place to see them! They are such beautiful, comical little birds and the ones at Sumburgh are completely unfazed by all the folk that come to see them. Un bec uni sans tache rouge qui tourne vers le violet en période nuptiale, comme une mouette rieuse mais non non, c'est bien un goéland ! Today's Toys, Trash, & Treasure! A beautiful setting to a somber scene. Wasn't expecting this kind of adventure today, hoping everything works out for this bird. Here's what happened- 1. As soon as I stepped outside, I couldn't help but notice how BLUE the sky was! Not a single cloud was brave enough to form today ☁️ 2. I love checking in with the Love Letters Mailbox. Today I read this note expressing a mother's love for her daughter. I was crying' in the club after reading this one, how freakin' wholesome 🥺 3. This was where the day took a turn. I noticed this Black Skimmer had something stuck to its beak. It wasn't trash, it was natural, but it wasn't breaking loose from this poor bird. 4. More info on Black Skimmers! Every year these birds visit this beach to nest. I tried my best to help this bird but this is a wild animal & it's better to move with caution in situations like this. 5. Instead, I walked to down the Sea Bird Sanctuary! The Sea Bird Sanctuary is home to professional sea bird rescuers. They're far more suited to handle this issue than I am ⛑️ 6. I told them the situation & explained what part of the beach the bird was hanging around, Hopefully we can prevent this from happening again. I also saw this pretty bird vibin' 7. Finally, here's the trash I collected on my way back home! It's hard to walk away from an animal in need, but I'm confident the Sea Bird Sanctuary will do what they can to help!
