Are you one of those plant people who hates when someone tells you a plant can’t be used in a certain way? I know I am. My experience tells me that all you need to do is figure out what the plant needs to keep it thriving, and recreate that situation, even on a small scale. Take climbing roses for instance. South Florida is not a good place to grow them. Hybrid tea roses languish in our hot, humid summers, and need constant chemical spraying to keep them going, and nobody wants that. And even then, they usually look poor. Winter is rose season in Florida, but so many of the fussy types come out of summer looking so bad that it takes months for them to recover and look good again. But I had a notion, and even though several people told me I was crazy, I did it anyway. And now we are seeing the results. This is Rosa 'Louis Philippe', growing on trellises and looking absolutely perfect. First introduced in 1834, this classic antique variety is fully double (meaning lots of petals!) with a lovely, sweet fragrance. Classified as a China Rose, it does occasionally exhibit a white streak through the crimson petals. It can be trimmed into a large bush, reaching about 7' x 4'. (The hedge in the photo is about 7’ x 8’ and was used as cutting stock.) and obviously with patience it can be trained to climb. They are quite hardy, and resistant to the problems that beset so many hybrid roses. (They've been around for nearly 200 years for a reason.) Like other roses, they need full sun, well-drained soil, and regular feeding. Otherwise, they are quite carefree. In Florida, they are often referred to as "Cracker Roses", so you will sometimes see them listed with this name. ‘Louis Phillipe’ is hardy USDA zones 7 and higher. Use them in the flowering border, in large pots or on trellises as a beautiful screen or espalier. As you can see, it IS possible to have climbing roses here, and their red flowers are appearing right in time for the holidays. Ready now in 15-gallon pots. I’ve had a lot of questions about my Tradescantia Nanouk after posting a reel of her, so I decided to do a post with a little bit more information! 💚. I picked this pretty up from my local Bunnings back in June this year, (last pic) she was small & pale, but deliciously pretty, & I already had the knowledge that being from the Tradescantia family she was going to be a fast grower & required very little care, if I recall correctly, Tradescantia Nanouk was a rarer species a while back & was definitely not as reasonably priced as she is now, so I didn’t hesitate when I discovered this one! Anyhoooo, let’s get to the care tips! ⬇️⬇️⬇️ Obviously I haven’t had this plant for long but I’ve done my research, & this is what I’ve come up with! 👌 🪴 I haven’t repotted as yet, & she’s currently in a peat mix, when I do repot, it will be in a mix of just premium soil & perlite. ( they need good drainage) ☀️ Nanouk is known to be very vibrant in colouring compared to other Tradescantia, but this also depends on the amount of light it gets, mine receives direct morning sun, (sits right in front of a window) & then bright indirect for the rest of the day, ( definitely avoid hot afternoon sun those leaves will burnnnn!🔥) light is imperative for that gorgeous glowing pink colour & sweet little white flowers. 💦 I only water when the soil has dried out, overwatering will kill her in a heartbeat, they much prefer to be on the drier side. 🌱 As always I fertilise useing @gt_focus_on_plants_aus it’s important to keep this up in spring & to encourage & maintain flowers! 🌸 Nanouk has small delicate white flowers, that appear in spring, & when given enough light & feeding. 😮💨👌 If you’ve read this far, well done! 😆 & hopefully these tips help you! Thank you, friend! ❤️ Prior to the pandemic I was really on the fence about adding a Aurea Variegated Monstera but had arranged trades to happen. I was hesitating because some of my friends had variegated ones that were prone to browning. Having already dealt with the extreme cases of that with my Albos I was not sure if I wanted to go through it again. Some varieties do not seem to suffer from browning (but this may be dependent on environment and humidity). Then the pandemic arrived. Mail service became so unreliable that I would not risk trades of live plants at this point. But I also had not done a lot of plant shopping these last couple of years so I was ecstatic when Miah found this. The first leaf it gave me after I brought it home had hints of marbling but as it hardened it ended up being PURE GREEN. 🥲 I was so disappointed because it had 3 leaves with this lime-green variegation?! Then I noticed last week it had begun the journey to put out a new leaf and when it opened completely I saw distinct patterning. My heart beat faster - the variegation had indeed come back! I will photograph it again when the leaf hardens completely. Genetic flukes are common in mass-produced plants and the next time you see a bunch of newly delivered Monstera deliciosa go check it out and see if any of them may be a sport! Derribando Mitos Son muchos los mitos que existen sobre el cuidado de las Plantas, es por eso que quise crear este post y compartirlo con uds mis Soas y mis plantlovers Mito 1 las plantas nos roban el oxígeno de la habitación como se te ocurre tener plantas en el dormitorio! me han dicho tantas veces esto, seguro a uds tb, pero para que tengan una idea, una planta requiere muy poco oxígeno, ni siquiera el 0.1% de una habitación, mientras que una persona apenas consume un 3%. Hay muchas plantitas que purifican el ambiente y otras liberan oxígeno durante la noche. Por otra parte, plantas como la lavanda tienen un efecto calmante que te ayudarán a conciliar mejor el sueño, hay plantitas que son ideales para las habitaciones como las Sansevieria, Cintas, Pothus, Cordatum, Monsteras y muchas más! Mito 2 todas las plantas necesitan rayos de sol. se me ocurrió darles un baño de sol a mis Calatheas y como ellas son tan drama queen sus hojitas se enrollaron, la mayoría de las nenas tropicales resisten muy bien la semisombra porque crecen bajo plantas de gran altura donde son protegidas de los rayos directos del sol, x eso antes de exponerlas a sol directo investiga sobre tu planta y ve lo que realmente necesita. Mito 3 las plantas no sobreviven a lugares oscuros. otra falsedad más!!!, tengo un cordatum en mi baño, donde tengo muuuy poquita luz natural pero esta precioso, porque le gusta la humedad y eso ayuda a su crecimiento, hay muchas plantas que no necesitan espacios iluminados para crecer, como la maranta leuconera, que mientras tenga la humedad que necesita crecerá sana y fuerte. Die Farbe Blau steht für den Himmel, Weiß verkörpert die Wolken, die Reinheit und den unendlichen Äther, Rot steht für das Element Feuer, Grün für das Wasserelement und das Erdelement wird von der Farbe Gelb symbolisiert. Mittels traditionellem Holzdruck werden auf den Fahnen Symbole und Gebete aufgebracht. Das traditionelle tibetische Mantra „Om padme hum“, das auf vielen Fahnen aufgedruckt ist, steht für das Glück aller fühlenden Wesen und wird mit dem Wind in die Welt getragen. My Strawberry Shake🍓 finally gets the hang of it. Had to prune 🔪it since it kept on pushing out full moon 🌕variegated leavessssss which eventually expired. New leaves were also not healthy as seen on the second photo (taken when i just bought it) and it kept going under my care therefore chop chop was much needed. I am glad that I decided to cut it because this top cut is now looking great and healthy. Plus more strawberry babies. But as beautiful as they are, they do have a bit of a dark side! Both the leaves and the nectar are highly toxic. In fact, they were so notorious for their toxicity that sending a black vase filled with Azalea blooms was considered a very serious death threat. Yikes!
