Also for the early 49 and 51 VW Beetle brochure. Then for all Fleischhauer ad's till the 60s. Aral used his drawings for they books. He was a friend of Walter Franz the CEO of Fleischhauer. There is also a book available from Walter Franz "Die kleine Reise" (a little journey), about the area of Cologne, 188 pages, all Illustrations there from van Husen. And for the ADAC for race poster. So I decided to share some of his great work the next weeks, this is a homage to Ernst van Husen (1914 - 1982) All rights are on his side and his clients ! From the linen backing kitchen…..cars, cars and more cars. Race cars! Carrera Panamericana Mexico 1954 extremely rare poster that has been around for 70 years and shows signs of much, ‘noble wear’. Oil stains in the paper, missing paper where tape was used to mount poster ( we repaired this by paper casting, also known as leaf casting) and various touchups and TLC to give this beauty another chance. From May 1970 one of the most sought after race posters, McQueen Drives Porsche……need I explain why? This poster was in near perfect condition with the one ( and very unfortunate occurrence) the ‘Drives Porsche’ letters are meant to be an intense orange colour which on this poster has faded due to UV exposure. It doesn’t matter how many times or how passionately I explain about UV damage and how certain inks and colours are more ‘fugitive’ than others, I see the results and I’m asked to fix this. In some cases ( like this Porsche poster) I could have fixed the faded letters but the client chose not to spend the money on fixing this poster and on other poster designs where the image is an illustration where the colours have faded that becomes a near impossible job or one that would be cost prohibitive due to the time involved to repair the damage. From 1933 Castrol Oil poster featuring Bugatti race car in this poster featuring Count Stanisław Michel Frederic Marie Czaykowski a Polish race car driver and he was one of three drivers to die during the 1933 Monza Grand Prix at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, along with Baconin Borzacchini and Giuseppe Campari. Poster is in near mint condition and with bright colour and no paper loss. Eight years ago I got to make this poster for the Marshall Sprints, a local high school ski race (that’s big, old Lake Superior in the background).
