Hello legends! Here are the ultra close ups of my Castellan Crowe model. I was very pleased that the model received a gold model at the recent arc event. It is truly amazing to watch how the level of painting is rising so quickly in Australia and around the world. Usually I would do a big post up after one of our Australian painting events but we have done alot of posting in our stories this time! @arc.fest was filled with alot of New's! the event had a new venue, some new catogries, new gaming events, new sponsors and whole bunch more! One thing wasn't New though is the Arc Spirit! this event has been going for a really long time and that is something that is and has always been present. although I have never gone as a player I have attended plenty in years gone by. Its great to see Arc Open and the event as whole go from strength to strength. its been a couple of days since the event wrapped and I have already heard plenty of great stories from great people that attended the weekend! Another thing that was new was one of the results I was awarded and here is the images taken by my dear friend in @davecolwell725 I fell very lucky to have the chance to have Dave take photos of things I have made and painted but I fell blessed to have you as a friend you "Absolute Legend" ā¤ļøā¤ļø To all the entrants, as always events dont exist with out us all getting along and putting ourselves and our work on display to be judged by our peers and our judges. Hello you absolute mega legends! Itās been a little while since I have made a post and finished a model. I have been busy these last months with events in Australia and other things in life have been slowing me down a little bit but even with it all I keep painting because painting minis is what I love to do. So here I present you with Grey Knight legend Castellan Crowe. Iāve tried very hard to capture the essence of a Grey Knight having just found himself in the midst of a Chaos Invasion. I find the purple and greenish tones I have used to have a very unnatural feel to them. What do you think, do the colours feel unnatural and chaos invasion like to you? One of the most difficult parts of this model was trying to find a way to balance the materials that should read as silver vs white because youāre using the exact same paints next to each other and the only thing to differentiate them is the blend gradients and the amount of intended reflectivity. I do think the NMM silver parts do come across reasonably well but I still think the right look to capture silver is not quite within my grasp yet; it still feels a bit more like steel. I donāt know if Iām being particularly harsh on myself which I probably am but silver is seriously damn difficult to figure out. Good morning, good afternoon, good evening or good night. Iām showing the āafterā first because itās so much better looking than the ābeforeā. It was initially painted with a dark green glossy varnish that Iāve sanded off to the very homely ābeforeā (last photo)ā¦ poor thing. I sanded the varnish off a while back and didnāt take a photo of what it initially looked like. Now Iām in the process of painting it with some folk art decorations after Iāve repainted the whole hutch with Deco Artās āDesert Cactusā acrylic paint. Hello you absolute whopping legends! Itās been a while since my last post and I am very happy to share my latest work with you which is this Broken Sword academic bust sculpted by @hugo_gomez_briones. I am truly honoured to have had the special opportunity to paint this special bust and must thank @aythamialonsoart for the permission. I have painted this bust to the best of my abilities as a gift to Hugo for all his assistance and for being such a friend. It has been a busy period for me with @thecrimsonbrush and @will_paints ās visit to aus, during this time I have been inspired greatly and taken many of the learnings and inspiration I have experienced and have begun to try and put it into practice on this model. This will be the first of many model in which I begin to explore painting models during the golden hour. Interestingly I have shown some of my friends this model already and some see the golden hour sunrise and others see something like the inside of a tavern or blacksmith this tells me that while the finished result is good I have a way to go before I can properly captute the time of day like I intend. Hello you absolute legends! Itās nearly Crimson Brush time my favorite weekend of the year! Because we are having @will_paints here to visit he will be transporting this model back to its owner @jhcalvin who I really cannot thank enough for all the support over the years now and a super duper thanks to Will for carrying her. @4lex_0z did an exception job has for his work sculpting the model, I still love it as much as I did when it was first finished. He really nailed the sculpt! A HUGE thanks must also go to @hugo_gomez_briones for the help finalizing the chicken sculpt and making it work so well. I sculpted the basic shape but he put the critical finishing touches on which really brought it to life. Thanks also to @raccoonmilitarycontractors for printing the chicken, this post is full of thanks and it shows that stuff like this really takes a village. This is the 2nd time I post this model but it deserves it. This was my 1st time painting a unique sculpt and the model is extremely special to me. The previous post was the way I āfinishedā the model in a hurry for the Guilds Inn and I didnāt spend as much time working on the base as I should have. With feedback from a bunch of legends and a comment about the need for a chicken because there is one in the original artwork (see image 10) it felt like the perfect thing to elevate the base and give this model the love it truly deserves. I also spent a bunch more time painting the stone tiles. It wasnāt bad before but for some reason I got it stuck in my head that I wanted them to be dark stone. There was a disconnect between the model and the base because the stone was so dark. Image 9 is the previous version and does anyone know who the original artist is? Another person to thank. Hello all you great and wonderful mini loving legends. Here I have the reverse WIP for you for Soma Moon Ray. This is a tricky one to share as I spent a lot of time on this project. I spent a whole heap of that time refining and fine tuning. Youāll see on the first bunch of photos that the changes are very difficult to see and generally quite small like you can barely notice a difference, on the base work in the first few images and then on the model itās all just slight refining. I put the images next to one another to try and make it easier to see the differences. Some of it I can barely see but I can see a clear progression in the overall feel of the model and scene as it progressed towards complete. I think a lot about how to make a model best serve the scene and things like the legs of this model for example play on my mind a lot. I could have painted the legs to be much more bright and used much more pure white on them than I did but I decided not too. They are tucked away under her and having so much white in the scene I was considering particularly how to make the focus work. Then with the base it was even more difficult because I wanted it to look like sheās in a flat white corridor but I found that if you make the whole thing too white it just washes out and feels dull. I think where I ended things it is very very close to that line of dulling out. I will be curious to hear what people think when they see her in person. But I had to make this choice to help the scene read the way I wanted. I think I wasnāt completely successful in making the base read white because I do believe many people read it as NMM. Itās okay because it looks decent but this is a hurdle Iām not sure how to overcome. Hello, you absolute legends! It's been a while since the last post but I have been busy trucking away on one of the hardest projects I've ever undertaken. Here I am happy to share my latest work with you which is Soma Moon Ray from @nekogalaxyminis which was Sculpted by Tom Lishman it has been painted for collector @alphatoybox. It's curious but I haven't seen this model painted many times outside-the-box art. The box art makes the model feel like it might need to be painted a certain way but since I've been sort of obsessed about white lately I really wanted to have another go at this 'all white' thing. I think I achieved the look of 'all white' much better this time but there is still big room for improvement, especially with the smooth and flat-angled faces on the base. I am fairly pleased with the end result however I have a very skewed perception of this project because I found it SO difficult and also just grueling work to paint this - especially on the base. Painting white is hard enough but trying to keep the scene feeling colourful and not bland while also trying to make things read as white while having relatively very little to work with (those flat panels man ARG!!). It probably would be a whole lot smarter to paint something like this using an airbrush more. I did use the AB for the base layer but was too afraid to use it once I had put paint on with the brush I didnāt want to do such time consuming work over if I messed it up. Whooo boy this was a tough one I'm super glad to be finished and I really hope you like it! Wherever you are and whatever you're doing I hope you're having a fantastic day.
