On November 1st, OCH welcomed Grade 9 students for the #TakeOurKidsToWorkDay. With this year's theme “Everyone Belongs Here!” in mind, students got a glimpse into our organization and workforce and learnt how they can contribute to a diverse and inclusive workplace. Although it may seem like a daunting idea, participating can be an experience of a lifetime for your child 🤩 Before, Take Our Kids to Work Day was mostly focused on young girls. Launched by Ms. Foundation for Women in 1993, the purpose behind this day was to familiarize young girls with the reality of a workplace. Later on, the program also included taking boys to workplaces. This annual event is Canada’s longest-running, highest profile career exploration event where students step into their future for a day and get a glimpse into the working world. The grade nine students of our Osler team members participated in our virtual event to enhance their understanding of the realities of working life. We gave them the tools and resources that they can use moving forward in their careers. They participated in various interactive information sessions put on by a few of our Associates, Human Resources, Marketing & Communications, and Information Services Professionals. Last week I co-led the @IBM Toronto #DesignStudio #design event for #TakeOurKidstoWork day. The students impressed us with their effort and storyboards. We had 14 teams across 2 rooms. In my room we had team A4 that tackled the #CarbonFootprint issue, team A8 addressed #MakingFriendsAtSchool in an era where #cyberbullying is clear and present, and team A5 approached #SocialAnxiety with a fresh perspective. Their journey is shown here. A #feedbackgrid was used to collect responses to our event as part of our #EnterpriseDesignThinking framework and the students wanted more time but that's a testiment to the fact that they were heavily engaged in the program and enjoyed the short time that we had together. #FlashbackFridays

Yesterday we had a blast showing some of our staff’s kids around Cloverdale Paint for #TakeOurKidsToWorkDay! This year, Avisar hosted Sean Vincent for Take Our Kids to Work Day. Currently, Sean aspires to be an accountant and was excited to get a feel for a professional office environment. To maximize his day in our office, Sean spent time shadowing Avisar’s administrative professionals, accountants, client managers and partners to get a real feel for how an accounting firm functions.
