Busy, busy day today, started off the #Vetiver stage 2 ground preparation for round 2 of planting, the next 1000 will be planted on Friday to help stabilize the banks from soil #erosion and watering the already planted slips, you have to nurture them quite a lot in the beginning #ambassadorsforgood #hydromulch #PhytoBlitz Then went to a Special meeting at the #Hennops River #Forum to vote for the new Chair and Deputies for the meetings.. We have a super dynamic team to work with.. Then raced to present at the WRC 5th Symposium which was really well received by the attendees 🙏💙💦 Then back to the Vetiver project to pick up the #crew and drop off the #tools Then got stuck into some necessary admin Then #ThePlanetCalls team meeting Then back to admin and somewhere in between making sure that my kids bath and eat.. Oh and organized a #WorldRiversDay celebration this Sunday at Hennops Pride.. Before and after photos of yesterday and today's cleaning of the Hennops River at Irene Country Club, in preparation for the installation of our litter catchment system.. There is a slight delay in building the road; just as well, because the area opposite was actually on fire on Monday and it ended up spreading to our side yesterday too! But our cleaning continued and we managed to remove 138 bags on Tuesday 154 bags on Wednesday Tomorrow we will be tackling the huge tree which has fallen in the river, with a chainsaw to remove it before rain season comes and causes it to dislodge and create a blockage downstream at a bridge somewhere.. Being green could play a leading role in the global movie scene. Vendors such as Keep it Green Recycling and Green Spark Group have emerged to help productions with recycling and greenhouse gas accounting. “Tomorrowland” (Walt Disney Pictures), filmed in Vancouver, is a recent example of a production that employed an environmental steward and achieved a 91 percent waste diversion rate from landfills by following a comprehensive zero waste initiative. In the Los Angeles area, 20th Century Fox, NBC Universal and Sony Pictures are examples of studios that are sharpening their focus on sustainable production. Sony Pictures employed a full-time independent contractor, Earth Angel, on “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” set and accomplished a 52 percent waste diversion rate from landfills. It donated nearly 50 tons of materials (lumber, steel, glass) for reuse on future productions and nearly 6,000 meals to community shelters and earned a carbon neutral certification. This blockbuster is touted as the most eco-friendly film in the history of Sony Pictures and has grabbed attention in publications such as The Hollywood Reporter. Altogether, “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” saved an estimated $400,000 by going green. Movie studios in Vancouver, Los Angeles and London are already incorporating sustainable production practices. Ref.
