Back in Fall, I shared that I tested positive for the BRCA2 gene in July. (After my Dad passed in April, I found out my family carries the BRCA2 mutation, we assume my dad had it as well, the responsible thing was for me to be tested). I have an amazing team of (6) doctors & since have had all clean tests (9 advanced screenings & a ton of blood given every 3mo). Basically they all say I couldn’t be healthier… with the exception of my lifetime cancer risk being > 90%. It’s “when” not “if”, is the phrase they have all used. I was given several options (including continued advanced screening & prophylactic procedures). NONE of the options were ideal & it’s really felt a lot like picking the lesser of two evils. I feel very fortunate to have an amazing family, boyfriend & friends that are like family to encourage & support this decision.
