Slide 1 is the very tired face of a dog who had her leg amputated seven weeks ago and today walked TWO KILOMETRES with her sister Hogan (2) and pals Daisy (3), Hayley (4), Hector (5), Sapphie (6) and Luca (7) and then got to eat some chippies as a reward for being so amazing! 🍟 We had every intention of turning around early but Neko was so determined to stay with the group so we let her carry on, and were prepared to carry her if necessary. Yesterday we went on a little trip to visit ruins of a castle and have a long walk through the forest. It was a beautiful warm day and there weren‘t many dogs around! Alma had so much fun. The oncologist is really happy with her blood counts and general progress, and says we can do treatments every three weeks instead of every four going forward. L’œil de T’Challa, puis l’œil de Krokmou, les traitements, les allers retours au veto, la préparation de la course, la Lekkarod et les travaux … une vie à 10000 à l’heure. Pour ceux qui me le demandent Wapi va bien. Quand l’œil de Krokmou est tombé malade j’ai pris la décision de repousser son opération car cela faisait beaucoup trop en enchaînement pour moi et j’étais épuisée émotionnellement et physiquement. Je ne me sentais pas capable d’encaisser cette nouvelle épreuve juste à la suite. Nous avons donc pris la décision avec ma vétérinaire de repousser d’un mois son amputation. C’est ainsi que Wapi se fera opérer jeudi prochain. Il me reste 7 jours pour finir les travaux à la maison, refaire un gros ménage de sa pièce et réussi à clôturer (la personne qui devait nous fournir les piquets nous a planté donc c’est une galère sans nom) J’essaye de ne pas trop penser à la suite des événements mais je pense que mon grumpy est fatigué de tout ça (et de la météo). Bandit is having a hard day. He doesn't want to take his medicine anymore, so we have to force it, which I hate doing. Dad had to go to the store and get a pill pusher. He has finally had his pain meds and antibiotics for the day. He's still eating okay, as long as it's chicken and rice. It's been a rough couple of days for us, friends. Tuesday night Neko was in a lot of pain and very restless. She and mum hardly got any sleep. We have brought her pain relief dosage back up - the vet advised us to reduce it over time - which resulted in her wetting the bed again last night. 💙 OSTEOSARCOMA UPDATE 💙 We had our first appointment with the oncologist today. Unfortunately we were unable to get in for a CT scan as they had a number of emergencies come in. Whatever the results the recommended next step is chemotherapy, so Neko will be spending Friday at the vet hospital - first having her CT scan, then her first round of chemo. 🥺 POST-AMPUTATION PUPDATE DAY 3 🥺 This is what your chin hairs look like when your dinner is mixed with yoghurt! 😱 Neko's stomach bruising has been worse than expected; we sent a photo to the vet and he summoned us back to the surgery to check her bloods. All came back good and we got some cream from the pharmacy on the vet's recommendation so we hope it will go down soon. 💪 Apart from that she is getting round amazingly well as you may have seen from our stories. She doesn't want the towel sling when she goes out to toilet, and she is much more confident without the dreaded cone on, which restricts her vision. ✨ POST-AMPUTATION RECOVERY PUPDATE ✨ Neko has been doing incredibly well today - we cannot believe how resilient she is. She has a really good appetite which has made it very easy to give her meds. Only super high quality "human" foods at the moment - today she has had roast chicken, white rice, yoghurt, cheese, scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and blueberries (and a bit of raw chicken mince, not recommended for humans). She lets us know when she needs to go to the toilet and we are astounded by her ability to get up by herself and hop out to the garden with the aid of a towel as a sling. She even chattered today (see stories)! 💙💙💙 INTRODUCING NEKO THE TRIPAWD 💙💙💙 To cut a long story short, Neko has been diagnosed with osteosarcoma (bone cancer) and on the recommendation of two vets at different surgeries we made the decision to amputate her back right leg. This is primarily for pain relief; further testing will determine if the cancer has spread and what action we take next. Needless to say we are devastated and still reeling from the speed at which this all happened (limping Monday afternoon, pain Thursday morning, diagnosis Thursday afternoon, amputation Friday). Thank you to Kate @mrbrunokennedy for being so supportive - having a friend who has been through this has been invaluable. As some of you may know my mum Volunteers every Monday as a brownie leader, and last night I got to go see her in action 🙌🏼 every week the girls do UMAs (unit meeting activities) and last night they did one called “Doggy Language” and mum thought I would be the perfect little helper 🐶 .
