3 hours ripping up the floor and attempting to work on some issues tonight… The floor had a vapour barrier then laminate on top of the original ambulance flooring which was wet between the layers when we pulled it up. Not sure what to do next as it’ll be an awful job removing the flooring. The runners down the middle are full of glue and we can’t find the screws to remove them. The big plate thing (not entirely sure what it is) seems impossible to remove with Allen keys. The step/cover over the diesel heater won’t seem to come off. First stage of building out the kitchen in Angus , will house a sink and oven with triple hob , 2 cupboards and drawer under the oven , rounded corners either end so not to impeded the Murphy bed and access to the rear door, made in its entirety from a reclaimed triple pine wardrobe . The heavier top and bottom of the wardrobe has been used for the worktops , the side panels and shelves used to make the cupboard carcasses and the 1 of the three doors will make the 2 cupboard doors and drawer fronts and the other two will be used for the shower and the amenities cupboard inside the rear door . Took a little road trip to Montana, ended up picking up our next project.
Building out the shower cubical in Angus . Framed using reclaimed battens and ply , and then clad with ‘alpine wood ‘ t&g waterprrof cladding from NP, the outside of the cubical was stained with village green wood stain in midnight blue and then finished by fixing polished battens to create an acoustic wall look , the battens where off cuts from the floor so matches seamlessly . Laying the beautiful reclaimed oak floor in Angus . This was salvaged from a local house restoration off of Facebook marketplace , it’s solid oak but at only 7mm thick is both hardwearing and lightweight . As you can see it has different coloured stains where it was run into adjoining rooms so was a real labour of love stripping it all back to the bare wood ready for finishing . It’s been finished with 2 coats of Matt floor lacquer from bona which not only draws out the natural colours of the wood but dries like concrete so is as tough as it comes . A rare sunny day has finally enabled me to remove the existing fixed sky light and replace with a heki midi opening sky light , with built in blackout and fly screens , now that’s done the rest of the ceiling has now been put up with the lights wired in , also fitted a blind that I was gifted as left over from another persons completed project , and by complete luck is an almost perfect fit for the bulkhead window ! My spring break adventure took a turn. I was about to take off and go disperse wild camping, when my travel angel stopped me in my tracks. She put in my path a diesel mechanic that owns this harvest host I was staying at. He came out with his cousin and found the problem and fixed Lucille good as new. We did a thing! Over 5 days we drove 1100+ miles from Arizona to Bend, OR to buy Earl a little brother! I’ve been pestering Meade for months now that getting a second vehicle (a Jeep specifically) would make life on the road so much easier. On drive days I’ll drive the Jeep with the girls in the back. And we can now leave Earl at base camp when we need to go into towns for errands and provisions. This Jeep was exceptionally well cared for, has a new engine, and will be with us for long after we finish living on the road. Everyone - meet Ricky! He’s a 1999 Jeep Cherokee XJ and the best part - manual transmission 😀 seriously my dream car ❤️ I feel so fortunate!
