This is the Pine & Ivy Shawl pattern from Anne Hanson @knitspot I love this pattern! This came up in my memories on Facebook this morning and this time I saved the pictures. Let me tell you about making this shawl… ✨ I knit this 12 yrs ago after I learned how to knit in 2008. The memories I have of knitting this shawl are SO good. I remember going to Village Wools and picking out the yarn I would use to make this…Misti Alpaca lace! Then me and several of my friends waiting for the release of the pattern on pins and needles. This was the first shawl pattern I had ever knit bottom up… and I LOVED it. I very distinctly remember that my second husband and I were watching MI-5 thru Netflix while I knit this. I never had any problems with this pattern, so clearly written and easy to understand. I knit this, to me, so fast. While binge watching MI-5, I knit this shawl in 25 days during the final days of April in 2010. I truly loved knitting this shawl! ✨ This shawl was given to my former Mother in Law, Lavinia Jo Morris, and she wore the heck out of it until she passed. ✨ I loved this project. It was the most memorable project I’ve knit and it was the most memorable commercial pattern I’d knit before I starting to design in 2012. The first week of shelter-in-place, I ordered 20 skeins of @brooklyntweed’s “Shelter” yarn. I don’t know if it was a premonition or a hubristic attempt to laugh at fate (probably the latter) but I decided that if I was going to be stuck at home for a while, knitting a queen sized blanket would keep me occupied. Well, from ordering a bunch of yarn that first week to starting the bind-off of the finished project the week I achieved a status of “fully vaccinated,” this blanket really has been a pandemic project. Although, I’m lucky I took a couple of breaks to knit baby blankets or those 20 skeins wouldn’t have been enough. And now I’ve finished it just in time for summer! (P.s. that is a nerve-wracking amount of leftover yarn, especially given how large this project was.)
Finally finished with this sweater for my husband! I reknit at least half of this sweater twice to get the right fit. Sleeves still turned out longer than I wanted-argh!! Totally wearable, though, and really nice-looking garment. The third pic is the invisible side seam-it’s designed so the rib pattern remains unbroken after seaming. Clever! Taco in his new sweater showing his new biking skills! I cast this sweater on exactly one year ago today. The instructions were not written in a way that was intuitive for me, which led to much backtracking and reknitting. At one point I frogged the whole thing and started over in a larger size. But it’s done now and Taco loves it. He has room to grow into it, so I think it will be around for a while. I’m not strong when it comes to finishing techniques and so spent a lot of time dragging my feet at the end. What got me over the hump was watching The Essential Guide to Finishing Handknits with Anne Hanson on Craftsy. I learned some better finishing techniques (picking up stitches, installing a zipper, etc) and am so pleased with how the sweater turned out in the end. Happy Me Made May! It definitely feels very different this year, but I don’t know what I would do during this time if I didn’t have my crafts. These are the Wheaten Mitts and Cap by Anne Hanson. They’re knit out of Hedgehog Cashmere Merino in Pollen, one of the softest yarns I’ve worked with to date.
