New colours are coming to the Olann line-up when the website is updated later this week. 2024 embraces earth tones and warm notes, for a sense of calm and tranquillity. . . This new Plomo Grey will be available in the new Iona Sweater and the Haven. I am also working on a new merino wool hat, which will be available at a later date, which will come in this gorgeous grey colour too. Plomo is made up of light and darker tones of grey, that marl together for a nuanced neutral. It has a lot of variation between skeins, so you’ll get something completely unique every time. This merino wool has been my go-to super-chunky for years and it’s fun to introduce this new colour to the line-up for 2024. . . Swatching. I LOVE how these colors are working up. It makes me think of sea glass and mermaids. I’m knitting close to the gauge recommended by the sweater pattern I’m thinking of using, but I don’t like how “open” the fabric feels (and this is prior to blocking, which I think is going to make the problem worse), so I think I’m going to go down from size 3 to size 2 needles. I’m still going to keep going with this swatch for a littler bit longer, so I can test out the lace pattern with this size. Then, I’ll create a new swatch with the smaller needles and compare the two. While I do feel impatient (I want to start knitting the real thing already!), I know that I am saving myself from future heartache by investing time to make these samples.
