Khukush Pass trek is about 60km long trek connecting Langar GB to Kalam Sawat. The Trek starts at Langar and continues alongside the beautiful Langar River flowing down from the infamous Baha Lakes. The first portion of the trek is beautiful with lush green plains until the mighty Baha/Khukush lake. It takes 4-5 hours from Langar to reach the first Lake. Baha lake is a 9 kilometers long lake surrounded by beautiful mountains. The lake has abundance of dried fire woods for cooking and camp fire. The hard part starts after the first lake because of the boulders on most of the trek. It also has very little resources to utilize for cooking and camping. So, one need to carry an alternative source for cooking. The second portion until the summit is most challenging as you have to walk on glaciers and the weather on this portion is also unpredictable. A person has to carry at least 4-5 meters of plastic in order to protect your belongings in case of rain. It can also be used as a shelter and can prevent rain water to come into your tent. The summit is almost 85° steep which need a safety rope to climb up. If you are in a group you can climb up being roped. Its also important to have a sharp edged stick or an Ice Axe if possible. The last portion is beautiful yet physically tough. The surrounding mountains are mighty and green with snow on their peaks. After a full day trek you can reach a point where you can find abundance of wood and fresh water. This point can be a last camp until you reach a jeepable road and civilization. Mahudand lake is the exit point where you can find vehicle to go back to your destinations.
