🌳tree bark appreciation post wooo🌳 i dare you to go into a forest and look real closely at all the different bark textures and NOT touch it🌿so TACTILE so DELICIOUS🤤 ✨ trees are a bit bleddy great aren't they🌳 they provide oxygen and absorb CO2, they reduce soil erosion and flooding, they increase soil nutrients, they clean the air from pollutants, they provide food and medicine, increase biodiversity and resilience to climate change, pests and diseases and improve our mental wellbeing! AND their bark looks like THIS🙌 we neeeeeed trees and trees need us, we can't keep destroying forests at the rate we are! Ever look at something considered mundane and are just awe struck with how intricate it really is? Look at the grain of the bark on the underside, the intricate patterns running along the outside with its moss clinging on. Isn't it beautiful? What of the excitement of a treasure hunt? To search for something and the joy of finally finding it. Ooof! After saying how much I really enjoyed painting bark I have met a really difficult type of lichen called Xanthoria Parietina and it is impossible for me to recreate faithfully. However, I have now learnt that the branch my Great Tit was sitting on was in the shade (if in sun, the lichen would have been yellow) and was acidic (to grow the other lichen on his perch - Hypogymnia Physodes/Monk’s Hood lichen).
