Studio View! 💖 Dear Friends~ I have had many Studios in my life…as a kid it was my bed or under a tree…. After I started a family it was the kitchen table….a small corner of our living room…our picnic table… then a spare bedroom… I later rented a large studio space where I taught & held community events…and created a little. I am back to a bedroom turned studio in our new/old family farmhouse. This room is slowly becoming one of my favorite places in our home. A place where I not only create, but where I dream & find peace. Sizing down brought its challenges, but also has taught me to only hold onto my favorites…and to keep them accessible. It’s made the space more precious, more intimate, more sacred. ✨My best advice is to carve out a little space for your creativity. Physically & emotionally. No matter the size of your space, make it beautiful! I used to carry around my art supplies in a fishing tackle box so I could take them anywhere. I also have a travel pouch that I have taken fishing, on the plane and high in the mountains. ✨Please don’t let anything hold you back! “Ship in the harbour.” Growing up Owen Sound, Ontario, these giants would appear like magic in the harbour. My father was a captain and pilot on them, and taught at Georgian College until he acquired a brain injury from encephalitis in the 1970’s. Day 71 - I reversed the steps I used yesterday. That is I used the Matisse inspired cut outs first, and then the string. The pink print was the result. I was also able to get a really good off-print on the paper I used to remove the first layer of paint. That's the blue print. In the last image you can see the comparison between today's and yesterday's prints. Pretty interesting how changing the order, changes the result! Which one is your favourite?
I love watercolor more every day. It doesn’t require perfection. I decided to do a wallpaper on this one knowing it was going to be wonky. My hands are shaky. I’ve never been able to draw a straight line. But I love how it frames this piece. My daughter named these characters Walter (the donkey); Chickie (bluebird), and Dickens (the crow).
