3/5 Many murals in and around Chicano Park date back to the 1970s and quite a few of them have been restored to their former glory. This is the "Historical Mural", located on the side of a freeway onramp, which was restored back in 2012. The photo shows only a small fragment of this impressive, large scale work. Check out the portraits on top. Lots of revolutionaries as well as artists. But the portrait of Pablo Picasso kind of intrigues me - his name is spelled with a typo. ✨The Next Chapter✨ •Swipe for full writing• It’s been an amazing 10 years in Barrio Logan, yet there are more years and experiences waiting for me. Though I have been proud of my career so far, I simply want to continue to push my boundaries with my subject matter and the environment around me. Barrio Logan has been an amazing place that started my career, allowed me to have my day job in coffee, and also even became my place of home residence for years. However, with all the years of growth and formulating my path, I realized that every space is a part of a bigger journey, and I’m ready to leave this space for the next chapter. Starting this June, my studio will be moving to Escondido inside Escondido Arts Partnership on Grand Avenue. I will be a working artist and shop owner in their art building along with my fellow art hub studio mate, Michael Woodward. I am so excited to have a different setting, different set of events, people, & experiences in an art-centric environment. The EAP is a nonprofit gallery first and foremost, which hosts plentiful art events every month, has multiple gallery walls where artists and themes are constantly rotating and currently houses a talented list of artists. Barrio was my beginning, but it was never meant to be my end. I am so grateful to have been able to check all of my career boxes here, from simply learning how to rent a studio, to an expansion allowing my fellow artists to show in that space. Last Fall, I realized I had reached my full potential and crossed off my list of career goals in Barrio. With that said & with the drive I have for my work, I know that there is more I can do, more I can learn, and I believe my art will only get stronger and better if I allowed myself the opportunity to see beyond Barrio. North County, I’m so excited to meet many of you and hope to bring The Girls full force up there. I can’t wait to shake things up with my artwork in a new area and become a more well rounded artist in the midst of both traditional art and experimental thinking. THE SHOP CAFE, Barrio Logan 📍 This place was PACKED on the weekend. So I came Monday morning and was not disappointed! The Shop hosts space for events in Barrio Logan (e.g. La Vuelta) with a coffee shop area and another room with seating, art, music, and a bar (only open during weekends and events) I ordered their Horchata Cafe de Olla and I can truly say this was a new favorite — Usually this drink comes super sweet, but it was perfectly balanced here. When visiting you’ll see a ton of art and merch representing Barrio Logan and the community. It seems a lot of people do come out here for menudo and drinks on Sunday mornings (caught on their IG posts) as well which is unique. They do have a parking lot designated for the coffee shop as well as street parking. My childhood neighborhood has truly been slept on with the Coffee Shops serving in the area! Why does noone talk about them enough? On January 22, the #SanDiego stormwater infrastructure failed our communities of #Southcrest, #MountainView, and so many more because our elected officials failed us. They failed to protect our right to safety by neglecting to update the deteriorating stormwater infrastructure. Action must be taken to modernize and maintain stormwater infrastructure to protect San Diegans today and into the future. The #SanDiego City Council Rules Committee will draft a measure to generate the money needed to update our local stormwater infrastructure. The draft will come back to the committee in June. I was obsessing a bit with how I painted parts of my painting “Resonance”, the circle painting, and I wanted to bring that into this larger piece. I also loved this piece because it was playing with other favorites such as my black background with gold, and the fact that she is engulfing the whole canvas. It felt powerful, she felt powerful, and I believe it’s purely the size of the painting! I also wanted to incorporate another favorite season of mine.
