Ok beekeepers and bee enthusiast this was a first for me and let me say so cool to watch 🐝 👀 These foragers were collecting wax that once was in their hive but had been scraped and removed. Sometimes bees.. well actually ALWAYS bees put wax in every nook and cranny and it becomes hard to open or close their hive without hurting them so beekeepers scrape and clean off excess wax when working the hive. Wax is priceless on so many levels ( don’t get me started) so we collect the extra wax to make stuff like candles, cream and polishes 🕯 It takes a lot for bees to produce wax. They need to be super healthy and consume a lot of honey to secret wax from their abdomens. Collectively about 8 pounds of honey is eaten to make 1 pound of wax and the crazy part is she is only around 10 days old when this is occurs 🤯 Any who, over the years I’ve seen them collect Pollen ✅ Nectar ✅ Sap and resin ✅ Water ✅ But I have never seen them collect and recycle wax!! Have you? #beeswax #beesaresocool #september #womenforbees #wombeekeepers #backyardhives #gardenhives #beeswaxcandles #beescollecting #beesofinstagram

Hey! Just a quick conversation about fertilizers and chemicals in container plantings. I noticed this worker honeybee collecting from the bottom of this black nursery pot I have on my deck. I have some Current berry shrubs in them waiting to be planted. She must have visited it 10 times in an hour, most likely she found it a great place to get a water supply. This is a great example that bees collect from everywhere and if it happens to be contaminated with chemicals that’s what they bring home ☹️ and that’s why pollinators are in trouble. Remember to think this spring about what you are fertilizing with and that you only need a little bit!
