Die Völker sind so unterschiedlich, manche tun so als wäre Hochsommer und sind so mega stark, dass die Beute fast explodiert💥🧨Dann gibt es Völker mit wenig Brut, die noch in den Startlöchern stehen. Mittlerweile weis ich, dass das Zauberwort Geduld heißt und diese Völker meist kräftig aufholen.💪🏾. Making flavoured honey is fun and easy. Simply add dry spices or even plain or roasted nuts to liquid honey, and stir. 🍋 You can experiment with new flavours. My two favourites are lavender and lemon-zest honey. And, ginger flavoured honey is fantastic with lemon tea. 👌 You can control the quality and strength of the flavours. I like a really strong cinnamon flavour. By buying fresh spices, and using double the amount of fresh cinnamon found in most cinnamon flavoured honeys, I get that amazing cinnamon bun style flavour. 🏆 You control the flavour freshness by making it in batches as you need it. Although honey never goes bad, once flavours are added, it deteriorates and should have the same expiry date as the flavours that were added. 💸 Making it is way cheaper than buying pre-mixed flavoured honey. Flavours or nuts will float to the top, and can be stirred back in before serving. Or, if you prefer that the flavours imbed throughout the honey as a spread, add and stir in a spoonful of creamed honey. Over the next week or so, stir the honey a couple of times, and your flavoured honey will firm up into a nice creamed honey spread. Never add liquid flavours, or it's likely to ferment and turn into flavoured mead. If you want to make your own fresh lavender or lemon-zest flavoured honey, dehydrate lavender leaves or lemon zest, grind it into a powder with a pestle and mortar, remove any remaining stems, and add it to your honey. Our unpasteurized honey is filtered to meet the Canada No. 1 grade. Getting the honey from the hive into the jar involves several steps. 1. Honey is extracted from combs 2. As this photo shows, honey is left to settle so that wax and other impurities float to the top. 3. Honey is filtered to remove impurities. 4. Then honey is put into clean new santized jars. To us, not filtering honey is like having lumpy gravy, or not filtering seeds out of fruit jelly. When the honey is heated this way, it is easier to extract from the comb. Someone was planning on running, or rather flying, away from home!!! Bees reproduce by swarming. When a hive is healthy and strong, the queen will lay eggs in special queen cells. Just before the new queen emerges, the old queen will leave the hive with a whole bunch of bees. Beekeepers try to prevent that from happening. It's nice to see a queen, but with so many bees in a hive, she can be hard to find. By seeing eggs, we know that she was healthy enough to lay eggs three days ago or less. The building where honey is extracted, processed, packaged and labeled is called a honey house. It is a food processing facility. Our micro honey house is federally Safe Food For Canadians licensed, and Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) inspected. While anyone can sell honey that is processed in an unlicensed facility, we feel that licensing is important because it ensures that our food processing methods and controls meet national food safety standards, and are verified by CFIA. Our inspector is wonderful to work with and has provided great advice to us over the years. My new Queen's arrived last week, and I installed them into my hives. They arrive in queen cages with a few attendants. They are placed into the hive, and it takes a few days for the bees in the hive to release her.
