*333 MAF SCOUTS SHOW THE WAY* Alhamdulillah our MAF Scouts have yet again gone over and beyond in delivering an amazing impact for those effected in Gazza. The scouts teams stayed overnight in the Masjid, cleaned the entire Masjid, helped with setting and selling Palestinian Merchandise for a worthy cause. They raised a whopping £2500 for Gazza in addition to the £1980 they raised for the Morocco Earthquake victims. Their efforts were recognised by Charity Week last weekend as they were declared finalist for the best community based effort. *Woodlands Camp* Last weekend, 333rd MAF Scouts embarked on their very first outdoor camp with @woodlands_adventure! They took part in many different activities, from zip lining, canoeing, and rock climbing! The most important thing that camp teaches our children is how to live in a protected shelter out in nature and how life has more to offer than just being on screens. Our Cubs learnt team building, team work, developed new skills, how to be patient and adjust in small spaces, they also interacted with other scout groups, and shared the experiences and joys AND made new friends! The Brooks Village is named after the Brooks family, who lived in the manor house from 1906 until the 1960s when it was bought by Birmingham Scouts, who were assisted financially by Douglas and Mary Turner. Brooks England are now famous for making high quality leather bicycle saddles. Last week, we took our sessions outdoors where the Beavers participated in a mindfulness walk counting towards their Our Adventure Challenge Award. This activity gave the Beavers a chance to be out in a park and connect with nature. *Life Saving Equipment Launched @ MAF* Alhamdulillah last Thursday we officially launched our defibrillator in usage for our local community if ever a need arises. This Ramadhan, our scouts have been busy! Whilst the Beavers learnt about gratitude and filled in their gratitude jars with things they are grateful for, our Cubs reflected on how this Ramadhan is different from Ramadhan experienced during COVID. This allowed them to reflect on important matters such as being able to open iftar with family and friends and having the opportunity to come to the Mosque for prayers. Our scouts also created their own good deeds tree. They had countless good deeds to write about and what they did during this month. This way, our scouts visualised how small deeds grow large and strong. We also held a small performance competition where each scout recited a Surah or Nasheed of their choice and were eager to encourage one another. Do you know what a Kiswa is? The Kiswa is the great black cloth that covers the Kaaba. The Kaaba is the sacred stone building at the centre of the Great Mosque in Makkah (or Mecca known to the non-Muslims). Every year, the Kiswa is removed, and the Kaaba is redraped in a new cloth on the 9th day of Dhul Hijjah. The Kiswa contains 47 pieces of cloth, and the entire Kiswa is about 658 sqm. It weighs 670kg out of which 220kg is the pure silver and gold thread. As part of the "My World Challenge Award", this week our Beavers learnt about Arabic calligraphy including how the Kabaah Kiswa and Masjid is decorated. Did you know fireworks were first used in England at a royal wedding? Here we can see our Cubs learnt about the history of fireworks and how they came to the UK in the 13th century. The Cubs also shared the significance of fireworks for different faiths and groups of people and how people use them as part of celebrating events. Here our Cubs were introduced to Eritrean and Abyssinian Islamic history briefly. They then explored some of the traditional items and learnt a bit about Tigrinya Language/ Alphabet and they had an attempt to write their names. Towards the end of the session they enjoyed eating one of the Eritrean traditional snacks 'kitcha’. International Currency; In this session, our Beavers learnt all about coins. They learnt about what the coins represented and how they related to the country it was used in. They discussed the designs of the different coins. They also had a go at putting the coins in order and recognised each Currency of different countries. Our Cubs became researchers AND reporters as they went on a charity investigation. In pairs, they used computers to explore the charities they were given and presented their findings to the rest of the group as ambassadors of the charity. They mapped the locations of our Scout group and their charities and saw how close they were to services that make a difference. Cubs in Catalonia... In this session, our Cubs were introduced to the Catalonian Cub Scout Promise and Baloo’s maxim. They worked in teams to solve the Catalonian Cub promise and played a game of charades to learn about the good nature and personality of a cub in Baloos Maxim. Teamwork is an important skill as it helps lead to innovation and encourages personal growth and gives the confidence to share best practices with peers. Friendship bracelets have been made for many years and are given by one person to another as a symbol of friendship. In Islam, there is great emphasis placed on friendship and having righteous friends. Our Beavers made bracelets to value the importance of friendship. They learned the qualities of a good friend and how to honour time, energy and love into a friendship. Also, how to apply the Beaver Scout promise ‘to be kind and helpful’ towards their friends. Last year, we took our Beaver and Cub Scouts to @goapecannock for some fun outdoor activity. We harnessed up and leapt for the trees as we tried something new and stepped out of our comfort zone! Homelessness is considered one of the modern worlds most serious problem. New research from england.shelter.org.uk shows at least 271,000 people are recorded as homeless in England, including 123,000 children. That's a huge number for anyone to comprehend therefore, 333 MAF Scouts joined forces with Masjid Al Falaah’s homeless shelter and helped hand out hot food, fresh and dried products to vulnerable people within the community. They also made cards for the guests with messages of warmth and love. *BRAILLE QURAN* Did you know that a Braille Quran consists of 6 volumes and weighs 10kg? Our children at Scouts had an opportunity to learn the Braille alphabet. They learnt to write their names in Braille and attempted to read the Braille Quran too. To see the fascination of them appreciating their own eyes and understanding how not everyone is the same, helped them to respect and value others. Our story began in 2022 in Masjid Al Falaah where we were given the opportunity to run Muslim Scouts for young people. Our volunteers underwent essential Scouts training, first aid training and put a programme in place and 333rd Birmingham MAF Scouts was born. Crew M, we're rock ✌️ Last weekend, I went to IST Weekend at Gilwell Park. It was incredible to meet another IST from across the county. Almost 800+ were there and we were put in the different groups.
