BLADE 2016: acrylic & spraypaint on Paris metro map • available now {via link in profile} • More on #BLADE: Steven Ogburn, better known as BLADE, grew up in the #Bronx. By 1980, he would become one of the most influential figures in graffiti. Blade began writing his name on the inside of buses and on the exterior of post office trucks in 1971 with small markers. In 1972, he hit his first train at the Baychester lay-up. His style began with stick letters like the rest of his peers until 1974 when he began painting in his signature "bubble letters." BLADE hit his last train with fellow graffiti artist SEEN in #1984. He was introduced to the art world by famed photographs Henry Chalfant and Martha Cooper, and had his first solo show at the Stellweg Seguy Gallery in New York in 1984. BLADE’s work has been shown in many individual and group shows in notable venues including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Musée National des Monuments Français, the Stedelijk Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Brooklyn Museum. Been picking up unique dollar bills over the last few years. Ive been working on a special frame with over 50 different artists that once complete I will display at one of my next events. I am very happy to be able to pick up these 2 dope bills from 2 incredible artists @bladekingofgraf and @jeffreygillette666. The Blade bill was just a fortuitous find and a def must have for me. His legacy is set in NY Graff history and within the culture itself. The Jeff Gillette bill is a great addition from another interesting artist. The bill came by way of an art auction from a gallery in California. It’s an artist proof and signed by the artist. They will look awesome in the finished project.
