Saying a last good bye and watching my mum take her last breath yesterday is one of the hardest things I've go through in life. Losing my Dad, Grandma and beautiful fur-babies over the past 8 years has been unbelievably heartbreaking and this is no different. She and I had a very challenging relationship, but I would give anything to talk to her again. I will miss her forever. I’ve mentioned this before, but I don’t have a relationship with my mother. She’s had plenty of opportunities to be part of my life and her grandchildren as well, but never put in any effort. Always came up with excuses and never accepted blame or accountability for how she behaves. Yes, behaves, and not behaved. Present tense and not past tense, because she still behaves this way today. In 2024, I am leaving her out of my life. Many may think I am not right doing this because “she’s my mother”. Yeah that doesn’t mean much when you’ve been mentally and emotionally abused and continue to be when you try. I will not expose my kids to that. Blood doesn’t make you family. Blood makes you related. I don’t blame her for this. I still love her very much. She has her reasons and I accept that. Whether it be her own trauma or upbringing. But that does not mean I have to endure this or expose my children to it. My kids will have questions one day and when that day comes, I will have an open honest discussion about this. But until then, I have a life to live. A wife to love. A career to build, children to raise, and myself to work on and love myself. The way I and they should always have been.
