Sistema Sac Be Ha. Tiny little hole hide the entrance to the Huge and highly decorated cave underneath. Despite the scary view there was actually pretty comfortable entrance and a large, beautifully decorated cave there. It was hard to find and get the entrance there (it's on the private property), but definitely worth checking out. The silver lining to delays in construction at our new clinic was that it allowed me to slip away for a few days and join my @diveworldcanada family back in Mexico. A few days ago we started the L1 speleology course with @vertical_projects. A very complete course that above all is based on giving us the skills and knowledge to perform the activity by ourselves autonomously. Soon we will practice anchors, descents and ascents, pulleys and rescue situations. All this in our first day of practice in a controlled place to then try the descents in different cenote environments. Planning on some cool dives this week, meanwhile spending a day on a gear maintenance. 🛠️ I try to deep clean all my equipment once every three months or so. But there are small things that need to be taken care of on a regular- like, putting lube on the light O rings, charging all the batteries, cleaning the drysuit zipper… And some things, like re-marking my cookies, changing bungees on the wing or regulator maintenance usually done once every 10 months (unless smth brakes 😂) How often do you maintain your gear? Just arrived in Norway, and it basically looks the same as it did in January 🥶☃️ 😂 I would like to thank every student and instructor candidates for their commitment and nice progression on classes Congratulations again! 🎉 10 classes including, cave1 classes, tech1, rec2, fundamentals, triox, upgrade, dpv1 classes and ITC training. 🤓 I enjoyed quality diving with old and new friends and in total 120 dives in the log for the stay. @caveccr can’t say that the four teams of divers into Mayan Blue yesterday replaced every single arrow in that section of the system. But we got damned close. To replacing every arrow in every part of the cave on that map. There was an unexpected arrow here or there. Or a T marked in a way that no one could remember or couldn’t remember exactly and replicate. So there’s a list of about 1/2 dozen things that need to be tidied up a little. But there it is. Something like 130 arrows replaced. The reason for the multicoloured arrows: End of Line / Mainline / Where you tie your primary reel to — - Arrow with current line name and distance to exit - White All middle-to-end jumps / "normal" jump-off-the-line jumps — - Consistent along mainline and along jump lines - Arrow with current line name and distance to exit - Red if the jump is to the left - Green if the jump is to the right (This is based on perspective, but consistent: from an exiting diver's perspective an arrow pointing to the right will be red, an arrow pointing left will be green) End of Line on jump lines — - Arrow with jump line name - White It's astonishingly elegant. And not just a silver lining... but having to spend the time to pick a marker and note the distance instead of simply counting distance markers (ala Florida) seems a really nice way to lock in the ideas of swim speeds and gas planning needs for students. Proof that you can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes you just might find you get what you need. Turns out that @caveccr will be speaking in NYC the evening of Tuesday, April 9th. No, it's not the reason I was planning to go, it was something that just happened to work out. Details to follow. Now I should probably go write a presentation about... something... probably something dive-related... in Mexico and/or caves... I admit I've always wanted to do some sort of an Andy Kaufman schtick where, when the polite introduction applause dies down, I launch in, fully committed, on an impassioned presentation about, say... an obscure fungus that is threatening an endangered tree population. Or the alarming sales trends in automotive fire suppression systems. Something just interesting enough that, while you feel like you should care, you really, really don't because it's bloody boring and it's all you can do to feign polite interest and pretend to not keep looking at your watch. But it'll probably be about diving.
