Puerto Morelos on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula was our last stop before returning to the U.S. It's only a 30-minute drive south of Cancun but feels completely different. It's much more laid back. You don't see American chains everywhere, and when we visited, the beach was full of more domestic tourists and locals than Americans. Unfortunately, the sargassum (seagrass) was bad at this time of year. It was piled up along the beach and made the water more murky. I still enjoyed Puerto Morelos, but it was a shame we didn't get to experience the beach at its best. We also hired a scooter and did a half day trip to Cenote Kin Ha on the Ruta de Los Cenotes. Cenotes are sinkholes filled with groundwater, some are underground, and some are open to the sky. The water is usually beautifully clear and perfect to swim in. Cenote Kin Ha is mostly underground, and we swam in the dark blue water while bats circled above our heads. CENOTE KIN-HA! MORE INFO HERE Discover the hidden gem of Mexico, Cenote Kin-Ha! It is about an hour and a half drive from Cancun. The drive itself is beautiful as you make your way into the interior of the Yucatan peninsula. Location: Head south from Cancun on highway 307. Go West on Quintana Puerto Morelos - Leona Vicario road. Take a sharp left onto Kin-Ha Road. You won’t miss it! Entrance Fee: Prices vary for activities like ATV and zip-lining. We drove our car in between the two available cenotes. The fee was $25 per person. There is a very cool shop here with areas to sit down and have snacks. They also have some cute kitties roaming around and an area with turtles roaming around. They feature two different cenotes. You can dive into both from raised platforms. One has a zipline to drop from, if you’re brave enough. The water is surprisingly cold but refreshing. It is definitely a visit worth having! Bring eco-friendly sunscreen to protect the cenote’s delicate ecosystem. 09.11.2023 Yesterday with @mantadiverscancun I went to do some diving in the #cenotes - what an experience and what a fun time it was. 😳😁 Dark, cold, and honestly, first time in freshwater was also a bit weird - I think my weights weren't all good, my buoyancy was also not working as good as it usually is in saltwater and did I mention it was dark? 🤣 All troubles aside, it was so stunning what you got to see down there - mother nature does fascinating things for sure 😍 P.s. Excelente experiencia vivida en JUNGLE KINGDOM, QR, México. Empezamos con la tirolesa, un poquito de puentin, ATV y terminamos con un buen chapuzón en el Cenote Kin-Ha. Súper recomendado. Adicional a estás actividades tienen un recorrido en caballo por la zona. Fue muy divertido y los guías muy amables. Algunas restricciones: No te permiten llevar el teléfono en el recorrido de las tirolesas, ni en los ATV (cuatrimotos) por las distracciones que esto puede causar y generar accidentes por estar pendiente a estos. We went swimming in a cenote that had this rope ball hanging above the water and thought it would be fun to try and climb on top of it… easier said than done. Eventually a guy managed to climb up and I couldn’t live with that. So, with some assistance and lots of cheering from these new friends, I was able to get up! It’s still one of my most impressive feats of strength and I’m so proud I could show that women can do hard things too!
