Shelter (2010) Genre : Horror Rating : 7/10 When a psychiatrist stumbles on a patient with multiple personalities, her entire life is turned upside down. The movie takes a dive into the mysterious realm of multiple personality disorder, with Julianne Moore playing a Pittsburgh forensic shrink determined to unravel the enigma surrounding her patient, portrayed by Jonathan Rhys Meyers. As the narrative unfolds, Meyers cycles through various alter egos, offering a mix of high-school drama club theatrics. While Michael Cooney's script echoes shades of other psychological thrillers like "Identity," Swedish directors Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein seem unfazed by narrative gaps, relying on atmospheric settings and borrowed elements from iconic films. Despite Moore's commendable efforts, the movie struggles to elevate itself beyond a conventional tale, leaving it to rest on the shoulders of Meyers' performance, which, despite his talent, doesn't salvage it from its average standing. The jumpscares were plentiful but overall, this movie was okay, not the best but not the worst either. The story was fun but again, there were a little too many gaps in it to be enjoyable. So, its completely up to you if you want to watch this movie or not! Plot: A theatre director sets about building a life size New York set for his new play whilst struggling with all aspects of his own life along the way. +s - Oosh this is a hard one. The film is tragically beautiful in it's plot and having viewed it once I feel the need to watch it again and have a good read up on its themes and other people's thoughts and take on it. It's dissection of life and death is truly thought provoking and a monologue by a priest towards the end is probably one of the most moving scenes in cinematic history for me. Incredible performances throughout and a real masterpiece of direction and cinematography. -s - This is another one of those films that some would call pretentious as it has a lot of style and the substance isn't easily accessible. It's incoherence and hard to reach themes will mean a lot may turn it off well before the end. Summary: Took me a little bit to start to understand where it was going but by the end I loved it.
