À espera de um milagre (1999) Direção: Frank Darabont A história começa com o protagonista já idoso revivendo suas memórias como chefe da guarda na “milha verde”, apelido dado ao Bloco E do presídio em que trabalhou, lugar onde ficavam os prisioneiros condenados à morte. A trama é desenvolvida aos poucos, com um ritmo bastante lento. Isso pode até afastar algumas pessoas, mas essa calma é essencial para que tudo funcione, estabelecendo um mundo absolutamente crível e corriqueiro, e entregando um primoroso desenvolvimento de personagens. Só depois de preparar muito bem o terreno que um novo elemento é inserido (não revelarei, óbvio). Garanto que ao invés de se sentir entediado, você ficará fortemente envolvido. É um filme tão magnético que nem percebemos as 3h09min passarem. Roteiro e direção transformam um cenário mórbido em um ambiente relativamente amistoso, embora a eminência da morte nunca seja esquecida. Esse mérito vem da habilidade de Darabont de equilibrar diferentes gêneros, sem que estes ofusquem a proposta dramática. O longa também possui uma série de subtextos interessantes sobre religião e preconceito, que embora claros, nunca se tornam excessivamente didáticos. "À espera de um milagre" mexe muito com nossas emoções e sentimentos. O grande mérito aqui, é que tudo surge naturalmente, sem maniqueísmos por parte de uma trilha sonora chorosa ou de exageros por parte do elenco. Aliás, que elenco fabuloso! Michael Clarke Duncan e Tom Hanks estão perfeitos. Frank Darabont parece ter nascido para adaptar os livros de Stephen King para o cinema. Ce qui est exceptionnel dans ce film c'est que chaque personnage (ou presque) peut nous faire avoir pitié de lui, même s'il a fait des crimes horribles. L'ambiance sombre est modulée par des éclairages industriels et une lumière naturelle jaune. La musique est très belle et rythme parfaitement le film. Les décors sont assez limités mais ne sont pas un frein à l'intrigue, bien qu'elle s'étale sur 3 heures. Je ne vois pas quoi regretter en dehors de quelques incohérences scénaristiques (je pense à la ceinture de Billy WHARTON dans sa cellule par exemple) que ne verrons que les yeux les plus avertis. Dans l'ensemble, "The Green Mile" est certainement l'un des meilleurs film de tous les temps. À voir et à revoir ! Los geht's mit meinem heutigen Neuzugang: Tödliches Kommando - The Hurt Locker. Ich habe den Film bislang nur einmal vor zig Jahren gesehen. Aber ich habe ihn damals sehr gut gefunden. Mal schauen, wie es heute ist. Und ich muss sagen, ich finde ihn immer noch sehr gut. Aunque como contrapunto tenemos algún efecto cgi que ha envejecido realmente mal. Pero se perdona ya que aunque no lo parezca, la película ya tiene 28 años. Geena Davis, que en aquel entonces era consorte de Renny Harlin y venían ambos de pinchar con "La isla de las cabezas cortadas", se mete en la piel de Charlene, una espia desmemoriada que desea volver al ruedo. Es agradable ver a Davis en un papel así, y es una lastima no haberla podido ver más veces. Creo que el papel de heroína de acción le sienta realmente bien. Just finished listening to another great work by @backmansk : "And Every Morning The Way Home Gets Longer And Longer". I knew this novella would be hard to get through when I started. For far too short a time I was a caregiver for my dear Grandma Rose, who spent her final years living with Alzhiemers. We were always so close for my whole life that it was hard to reconcile the brilliant woman she was with the frailer and more forgetful person she became. But I treasured every moment with her. Reading this book brought me back to those years, but in a gentle way. It gave voice to some of the fears and emotions I experienced, as well as some insight on how she may have felt. As always with Backman's @simonandschuster audiobooks, the narration was excellent! David Morse brought an added depth and richness to the characters. Some favorite quotes: "Live your life. Geena Davis (Thelma & Louise) is brilliant as an amnesiac government blackops assassin, now happily schoolteaching and mothering in charming rural Pennsylvania - Until a brutal car wreck brings memories of her past life back and a whole lotta guns with it. Samuel L. Jackson (fresh off Pulp Fiction and at his coolest) costars as the sharp-dressed private dick helping her along the way. "The dog's been licking his asshole for the last three straight hours. I submit to you that whatever he is attempting to dislodge is either gone for good, or there to stay. Wouldn't you agree?" A largely excellent supporting cast including Brian Cox (Manhunter) and David Morse (Contact) rounds things out. 17 years ago today, Disturbia was released in theaters on April 13, 2007. Really good intense neo-noir psychological serial killer thriller with Shia LaBeouf and legendary actor David Morse was truly terrifying as the evil sadistic serial killer Robert Turner. Usually I would prefer horror thriller movies about serial killers/slashers to have the R rating due to the gruesome violence committed by the killer or killers as what the audience are expecting to see, which this should of been rated-R but somehow with a PG-13 rating, the film still works well with suspense and a decent amount of violence going for it in my opinion. Which is rare for PG-13 that’s considered a violent slasher serial killer suspense thriller movie that is actually good and there’s not many that are. Released in theaters on this day in 2007! Ever since his father died, young Kale (Shia LaBeouf) has become increasingly sullen and withdrawn, until he finds himself under house arrest. With cabin fever setting in, he turns his attention to spying on his neighbors, becoming increasingly suspicious that one of them is a serial killer. However, he wonders if he is right, or if his overactive imagination is getting the better of him. The copyright holders of Cornell Woolrich’s short story ‘It Had to Be Murder’, which Rear Window (1954) was based on, sued DreamWorks, Paramount Pictures, and Steven Spielberg for using the story without permission. In 2010, a federal judge dismissed the suit, ruling “The main plots are similar only at a high, unprotectable level of generality ... Where ‘Disturbia’ is rife with sub-plots, the short story has none. The setting and mood of the short story are static and tense, whereas the setting and mood of ‘Disturbia’ are more dynamic and peppered with humor and teen romance.”. The publishers have a point though, this is, in some ways, an updated version of Rear Window, a film ironically originally released by Paramount, but now owned by Universal. The movie has similarities with 1985 horror movie “Fright Night”. In both, there is a teenager who spies on his neighbour with binoculars, suspecting that something odd is going on, the mother of the spying boy invites the strange neighbour to her house thereby surprising the teenager and ultimately there is indeed a sinister issue with the weird neighbour (a vampire and a serial killer respectively). Coincidentally, in 2011, DreamWorks produced the remake of Fright Night (2011) (at around 14 mins) Kale mentions that his mother is like the prison warden from Shawshank. David Morse was in The Green Mile (1999), whose director, Frank Darabont, directed The Shawshank Redemption (1994). I'm glad the story ended well! Bright, fun and cruel is "Home Alone". “The GOOD SON" is just plain wicked and cruel. For a taste of Macaulay Culkin's yang and yin, it is interesting to watch these two films as a set. Today I saw “Cabrini.” As the graphic says… “An amazing film about courage and persistence, beautifully shot, with great special effects to take the audience back to the 1890s New York… and yet I came away wondering how a Christian film about a great Christian leader, made by a Christian filmmaker, could make next to no references to Christ or God.” I understand the tightrope Christian filmmakers face, wanting to produce a righteous, uplifting feature audiences will pay to see in theaters. I face the same problem trying to get readers to buy and read a Christian novel.
