It has been over two months since we first hosted the "Tea Alchemy" experimental tea ceremony. The view outside @fougallery has transitioned from snow-laden branches to lush greenery, and our "Tea Alchemy" series now welcomes a new round of tea ceremonies. In the same gallery space, with the same “Winding Stream” tea stage, how can each tea ceremony present a unique elegance? We design each gallery tea ceremony according to its current exhibition theme. Coinciding with the solo exhibition of Iranian artist @sabafarhoudnia, titled "Falling Petals, Standing Roses," our "Tea Alchemy" melds Chinese and Iranian tea cultures, echoing the frequent rose motifs in the exhibition. Iranians love red tea, often enhancing it with roses and other spices. We chose Lapsang Souchong from Wuyi Mountain's Tongmuguan and wild red tea from Hunan's Wugai Mountain, brewed using the traditional Chinese gongfu method. This preparation brings out elegant floral fragrance and sweetness, offering our New York guests a red tea experience distinct from their usual perceptions. In the second half of the tea ceremony, we infuse rose buds with red tea, blending the sweet, rich fragrance of roses with the subtle strength of the tea. As Saba writes in the exhibition foreword, "With each fallen petal, another rose will bloom.This is our battlefield. This is our Eden." With this gathering of red tea and roses, we hope to share the beauty and resilience of life with our guests. I found this tea cup in a friend's house and loved this coincidence of the bubble becoming the donkey's eye. Or the donkey eye makes the bubble. This reminds me of one of my favourite ancient Chinese stories called 庄周梦蝶 Zhuangzi's Dream about the Butterfly (as much as I can translate): One day at the sunset, the Chinese philosopher Zhuаngzі dosed off and dreamed of himself as a butterfly flying around in ecstatic oblivion, integrating himself with the outer world in oneness. Upon awakening, he was obsessed with the question:"Have I just dreamed of the butterfly, or has it just dreamed of me? Am I recalling a dream, or am I actually in one now?"
