ON VIEW | Ronny Quevedo: "Composite Portals" opens today, Saturday, April 27, followed by a reception from 6:00–8:00 PM. Positioning Andean textiles as conduits between the precolonial past and our postcolonial present, "Composite Portals" approaches the body as a site where history is accumulated and worn. The works in the exhibition abstract the visual languages of uniforms, tunics, and quipus to reflect on identity and cross-cultural exchange. They serve, per Quevedo, as “tribute to places known, unknown, and lost.” Quevedo’s new works weave together personal and collective histories to map connections between lineage and inheritance. Join me at Nellie’s Gallery in the Moulton Museum for my solo exhibition “VIEWPOINTS” running from May 9 - August 15. A small part of the Moulton Ranch extended to what is now Monarch Beach at Salt Creek. After researching the history of this beach and finding old photos, I was able to compose this scene from the 1930’s or 40’s. A few small cottages sit where the Monarch Beach Club now stands and the large hill on the left has been leveled for custom homes. The Ritz Carlton Resort now overlooks the beach from the distant bluff. Η έκθεση θα διαρκέσει έως την Παρασκευή 24 Μαΐου 2024. «Στην οπτικοακουστική έκθεση/εγκατάσταση παρουσιάζονται δεκατρία κινητικά γλυπτά, τριών διαφορετικών διαστάσεων. Ο Ανδρέας Καλλή χρησιμοποιεί το αρχετυπικό σύμβολο ενός πουλιού που πετά, για να μιλήσει για τις έννοιες του ταξιδιού, της ύπαρξης, του ανεκπλήρωτου, τη θέση του ατόμου μέσα στα ιστορικά συγκείμενα της εποχής του. Έννοιες που αποτελούν πυρηνικές αναζητήσεις του εικαστικού του έργου. Τα φτερά κτυπούν δυνατά και ρυθμικά μεταγράφοντας τη μοναδικότητα της αίσθησης ανόδου, της πορείας προς τον ουρανό, μακριά από τη γη. Η θεατρικότητα του χώρου, με τη χρήση του φωτός και του ήχου δημιουργούν κάθε ατομικότητα μια υποκειμενική εμπειρία και κατανόηση του «ταξιδιού». Στην ανθρώπινη ιστορία ανέκαθεν τα πουλιά είχαν πολλαπλούς συμβολισμούς. . LOOKING AWRY, Thorbjørn Bechmann's solo exhibition. Danish artist Thorbjørn Bechmann's work shares a resonance with the principles of Light and Space, despite originating from a different cultural and geographic context. Through his exploration of light, atmosphere, and the interaction between humanity and the environment, Bechmann's art establishes a compelling dialogue with the tenets of Light and Space. Central to Light and Space is a fascination with light and its transformative qualities within the surrounding environment. Artists such as James Turrell and Robert Irwin sought to create environments that manipulated light to alter viewers' perceptions and sensory experiences. Similarly, Bechmann's artworks often depict ethereal landscapes suffused with soft, diffused light, evoking a sense of tranquility and serenity. In his new exposition at valerie_traan in Antwerp, Philip Aguirre is exhibiting a series of monumental sculptures in dialogue with some of his older works which have never been on display. The title “NO” is taken from a series of small sculptures which Aguirre created inspired by the manifesto “Indignez Vous”, “Time for Outrage” by Stéphane Hessel. In his new exposition at valerie_traan in Antwerp, Philip Aguirre is exhibiting a series of monumental sculptures in dialogue with some of his older works which have never been on display. The title “NO” is taken from a series of small sculptures which Aguirre created inspired by the manifesto “Indignez Vous”, “Time for Outrage” by Stéphane Hessel.
