Caspar David Friedrich was a 19th-century German Romantic landscape painter, who is known for his landscape paintings that usually features either gothic ruins, dead trees or morning mists. Some of his well-known paintings include Wanderer above the Sea of Fog (1818), The Abbey in the Oakwood (1809) & Monastery Graveyard in the Snow (1817 - 1819). The last two paintings are featured in slides 1-2 & two bands used The Abbey in the Oakwood for their releases, which are: Slide 3: Type O Negative - After Dark Slide 4: Dusk - Dusk EP Meanwhile, these bands used Monastery Graveyard in the Snow for these releases: Slide 5: Citizens Arrest - A Light in the Darkness (Citizens Arrest is a NYHC band with Daryl Kahan [Funebrarum, ex-Disma, ex-Abazagorath] on vocals.) Slide 6: Mythic - Mourning in the Winter Solstice Slide 7: Gorement - Into Shadows And then, slide 8 is the cover art of Convulse (FIN) - World Without God. It is based on Monastery Graveyard in the Snow. According to an interview with Convulse's vocalist/guitarist, Rami Jämsä, Convulse asked Mia Rassa, a young artist from the band's hometown of Nokia, Pirkanmaa to paint something gloomy & Mia showed Convulse the painting of World Without God cover art, which impressed Convulse & the band members decided to use it. However, Convulse initially thought that it was Mia's own painting, until the band members finally figured out that she made her painting identical to Monastery Graveyard in the Snow. I made this post because I've realized that there are more bands that used these paintings. If you happen to know more releases that uses either one of those paintings, please let me know in the comments. And you should also check out the releases that are featured in this post along with Friedrich's other paintings as well.

Today in Mayberry History - November 30. The Emmy-winning actor Richard “Dick” Crenna was born on this date in 1926. While more widely known for his acting, Dick directed eight episodes of “The Andy Griffith Show,” including the classics “A Date for Gomer” and “Citizen’s Arrest.” He also directed “Opie the Birdman,” an episode that consistently ranks at or near the top of fan’s favorite episodes. Dick got his start in radio when only 11 years old and continued played squeaky-voiced teenagers until he was nearly 30! His best-known role in radio was as Walter Jenkins in the radio series “Our Miss Brooks,” a role he also played in a movie version and a television version. His best-remembered work in a comedy was as Luke McCoy in “The Real McCoys,” the series on which he also first directed. He is probably best remembered as Colonel Sam Trautman, a grizzled Army officer called in to sooth the title character in the Rambo movies.
