I’ve lived a lot of places, but this is my love letter to New Mexico, to Santa Fe, as the spring gives us its last snow. Chicago, NorCal, Brooklyn, each of you I’ve loved in your own way, from my apartment right above the front door of Two Saints just a couple blocks from some of my best friends in the world, to the long walks on San Gregorio Beach, just past Applejack’s out in the redwoods and across skyline boulevard from Silicon Valley. Something about the people here in Santa Fe, the connections, the art, the music - all of it just fits me like a well worn pair of boots, and who would have known. All those years since I backpacked here as a teenager, wore my New Mexico shirts everywhere else I went, it stayed a part of me. But I never could have dreamt the beauty, the people, the way I’m thriving here now. The journey is always a long and winding one, never a straight line. I write as I unlace my steel toe boots from a Long Island Railroad track maintenance project I worked in what feels like a lifetime ago. But here we are, and I could not be happier. I’m meeting some pretty special people, and the future looks bright from on top this mountain ✨🌋🏜️

Lea decides that she wants a #kitten. Kittens are cute and fun. So she gets one from her neighbor’s daughter’s friend who is giving away the kittens her female #cat had last month. Kitten is adorable and Lea loves her. Fast forward 10 months and Lea thinks her baby needs a friend. This time, Lea finds a young cat on a website who is being given away for free. He’s handsome! She brings the boy home. He and her female cat play, snuggle and become friends. It’s perfect and Lea loves them. Very quickly the female gets pregnant and gives birth to 2 kittens. They are SO CUTE and mama cares for them so well. They chase each other, play, wrestle and nap together. They grow up so fast! Suddenly Lea has 4 mouths to feed and kittens eat a lot. She eventually finds a home for one of them but now she has 3 cats. Kitten grows bigger and some time down the road the female gets pregnant again and has 4 kittens. They eat, poop and make messes. It’s not so fun anymore. It’s expensive and Lea now has 7 intact cats at home. She needs help. ——- We see this scenario often. Just this week Good Home accepted 2 adults & 5 kittens from 2 separate owners who found themselves inundated with several generations of intact cats. A good number of #cats born inside will end up on the street. A fortunate few will be taken to the city shelter. Others will remain in the household breeding out of control with other intact cats. Some will perish from a lack of proper care. This is where local rescue comes in—we are open & working when the larger #animalwelfare orgs are closed for the day. We physically go TO the home, provide equipment AND transportation. We provide free or low cost appts for all of the cats in the household, equipment and transportation—otherwise, it wouldn’t get done. Adopt GARGI & TINKY WINKY! 💞 These brothers come from a litter of four found in a PA backyard. Now, they’re in foster care with @goodhome_thetubbies! Gargi is white with beige/gray markings and blue eyes, and Tinky Winky is white on bottom and dark gray on top, with an upside down heart on the back of his head and green eyes. 🩶 Both are social and cuddly kittens. They love to be nearby and help with whatever you’re working on and get *very* excited when you’re home. 😻😻Gargi especially loves to have a spot right next to you and will hold your hand or headbutt you for attention. Tink likes to make biscuits on his people but will take breaks from the lap cat life to perch at the top of a tall cat tree and meow at the action happening outside the window. 🗣️🪟 Tink is also a huge fan of shredding cardboard - like, the *biggest* fan. 📦 Both of them love to play, but Gargi is a true hunter. Wand toys are a big hit. Tink will sit back and let Gargi get his hunting on, but needs some focused play time too. 🧶 Tink loves to get under and inside of things. He likes to burrow in blankets and will determinedly dig under cabinets to retrieve toys, Gargi will watch him work and make sure everything is up to snuff. Tink likes to be cradled upside down and have his belly rubbed and takes on almost a snake-like draping posture, while Gargi likes to be held firmly with paws against you while you scratch his neck. The duo loves to explore together and while they keep each other good company, they’d relish a family who can give them plenty of cuddles and attention. They would love a life filled with fish and plenty of Churus to go around! 🐟 Gargi has microphthalmia (a condition in which one eye is smaller than the other). He has been seen by an eye doctor, and his vision isn’t affected. He doesn’t require any special care for this condition beyond the standard annual check-ups. Sadly, in just 48 hours these two girls will be moved off their plushy couch and into a large crate that’s in a temporary holding space. Big Bella and Little Bella are suddenly losing the foster home they’ve been in since January due to an unforeseen move their fosters need to make. Because we had so little notice to line up a new home for them, we have nowhere for them to go but a holding crate. Of course they will still be doted on and lovingly cared for there, but it’s not the cozy, comfortable environment they’ve come to know nor what we want for them. If you live in Brooklyn, Manhattan or Queens and are interested in fostering these girls, please reach out. These girlies are a bonded mother-daughter duo who have loved each other since birth, sticking together through winters, hardships, and pregnancies. They are on the shy-side of friendly but had been making great strides gaining confidence with their former fosters. They would benefit from a loving and patient home that’s eager to shower them with treats and play to keep drawing them out of their adorable cow-coated shells.
