Today we ticked off a few things 1st futurity for Tink, 1st Derby for Blink. I’m beyond tickled pink for Tink. Her 2nd ever clocked run and she’s just getting started. They are so different (actually complete opposites) for full sisters and they both challenge me as a rider. Take the next month to keep building and get ready for Claresholm. O N E ✨ And just like that, these two beautiful girls are ONE YEAR OLD. This feels like a dream, I still can’t believe it. It feels like just yesterday that the doctor came flying into my room after my ultrasound, telling me the babies would be delivered in the next 45 mins. I was so excited to meet them, but I was also scared. They were only 26 weeks old and I was terrified they might not make it. And if they did, what would their future look like? There were so many unknowns it was hard to wrap my head around them all. We kept our heads high and trusted the process. And look at them now! I could not be more proud of them, and how far we have come in the past year. Addie & Ellie absolutely rocked their birthday cake smash today, and most definitely accomplished the goal of smashing their cakes lol. Thank you @isleandcophotography for the most amazing cake smash session I could have imagined. I am absolutely BLOWN away by the photos, as usual. It was ridiculously difficult choosing which sneak peaks to post! 💕 Thank you @cakesandbakesbykathryn for the most amazing smash cakes! They were not only delicious, they were OBVIOUSLY very well liked by the girls 🤣 & thank you @juliamoschetti for the cake stands which were absolutely perfect 😍 . . . . . #cakesmash #ttts #daisybabies #siugr #preemies #26weeker #micropreemie #nicumama #nicuwarrior #mcdatwins #moditwins #momswithcameras #babyphotography

30 weeks in vs 30 weeks out: Time keeps flying! To be honest, there were times I wasn’t sure we would make it this far with TWO babies! So grateful we have all made it this far. My body carried my babies for as long as was safe for us all and I couldn’t be more proud! Bonus: I asked Erik not to take a picture of my feet so he took a video at least it’s cute! ☺️😂 #TAPS #TAPSAwareness #TwinAnemiaPolycythemiaSequence #DaisyBabies #MiracleBabies #NICUGraduates #preemies #invsout #twins #complicatedpregnancy #momofmultiples #twinmom

Fact #31 TTTS is a powerful disease, but it's not stronger than a mother's love. #internationaltttsawarenessmonth

1/1/2024, 12:40:16 AM

Fact #30 December is International TTTS Awareness Month Stage 5 TTTS is diagnosed when one or both babies sadly pass away. #internationaltttsawarenessmonth

12/30/2023, 7:13:36 PM

Fact #29 December is International TTTS Awareness Month Stage 4 TTTS is diagnosed by ultrasound showing swelling under the skin and hydrops, signs of heart failure, in the recipient baby who has more than normal amounts of amniotic fluid around it. #internationaltttsawarenessmonth

12/29/2023, 10:10:42 PM

Fact #28 December is International TTTS Awareness Month Stage 3 TTTS is diagnosed on ultrasound when the Doppler's are not normal. Abnormal blood flow shows in the umbilical cords and or hearts of the twins. #internationaltttsawarenessmonth

12/29/2023, 2:50:42 AM

Fact #27 December is International TTTS Awareness Month Stage 2 TTTS is diagnosed on ultrasound when one twin, the donor, does not show a visible bladder within 30 minutes of examination. #internationaltttsawarenessmonth

12/29/2023, 2:40:59 AM

Fact #26 December is International TTTS Awareness Month Stage 1 TTTS is diagnosed when one baby's deepest pocket of amniotic fluid is over 8cm, and the other's is under 2cm. #internationaltttsawarenessmonth

Merry Christmas With all our love and support from all of us at The TTTS Foundation.

12/25/2023, 6:58:49 PM

Fact #24 December is International TTTS Awareness Month TTTS is diagnosed by ultrasound. If you have an ultrasound every 2 weeks, you are increasing your risk of being diagnosed at a later stage with more dire outcomes, as well as possibly missing an opportunity for laser surgery. Weekly ultrasounds are crucial to diagnosing TTTS at the earliest possible chance. Do not go longer than 7 days for an ultrasound even if your pregnancy is perfect. If you are diagnosed, do not go longer than 3 days. #internationaltttsawarenessmonth

12/25/2023, 8:18:43 AM

Fact #22 December is International TTTS Awareness Month It is a misconception to be told your babies will get TTTS if they are different in size. A size difference of 20% or less for monochorionic twins is normal. A size difference can come from TTTS, but can also come from having an unequal placental share, a 2 vessel (instead of a normal 3 vessel) umbilical cord, and/or a cord insertion problem. A size difference does not mean your babies will become diagnosed with TTTS nor do babies the same size have protection against a diagnosis. #internationaltttsawarenessmonth

12/22/2023, 8:32:07 PM

Fact #21 December is International TTTS Awareness Month Many OB/GYN's think that your babies are fraternal if there are 2 sacs (it should be 2 placentas), only do ultrasounds every 4-6 weeks, feel TTTS is 'rare' if they even know of the disease, and therefore will not believe you if you call saying you are in pain, have gained a lot of weight or feel like you are going to burst. The ignorance amongst most OB/GYN's puts babies lives in danger and your symptoms will be ignored and only heard as normal pregnancy complaints. #internationaltttsawarenessmonth

12/21/2023, 7:56:08 PM

Fact #20 December is International TTTS Awareness Month There is an international crisis amongst OB/GYN's who refuse to refer their patients to the high risk doctor because it is a status symbol for them to care for multiple birth pregnancies. We have to empower the pregnant mother to understand that most OB'GYN's make negligent, life-threatening mistakes regarding TTTS and are very misinformed. All pregnant mothers with monochorionic twins need to be in the care of a maternal-fetal medicine specialist. #internationaltttsawarenessmonth

12/20/2023, 8:01:11 PM

Fact #18 December is International TTTS Awareness Month Warning signs of TTTS in the mother include: rapid growth of the womb, a uterus that measures large for dates, abdominal pain, tightness or uterine contractions, sudden increases in body weight, and swelling of hands and feet. #internationaltttsawarenessmonth

12/18/2023, 10:46:07 PM

International TTTS Awareness Month Fact #17 @tttsfoundation

12/18/2023, 2:38:48 AM

December is International TTTS Awareness Month Fact #16 TAPS is a chronic form of TTTS, but differs in that it is the red blood cells only that are unequally shared in the placenta, not the volume of blood. For this reason, there are no physical symptoms in the mother. TAPS is a silent killer. You could lose your babies before ever having a chance to save them. #TAPSisSILENT #internationalTTTSawarenessmonth

12/17/2023, 3:40:51 AM

Fact #15 December is International TTTS Awareness Month TTTS is the #1 life-threatening condition affecting multiples. It is a misconception to say that TTTS is rare. Without treatment or intervention, TTTS has an 80-100% mortality rate. Learn more by visiting our website at tttsfoundation.org. #internationaltttsawarenessmonth

12/16/2023, 4:24:18 AM

Fact #13 December's International TTTS Awareness Month Chronic TTTS usually occurs at 12–26 weeks gestation. These diagnoses are the most serious because the babies are immature and cannot be delivered. In addition, the twins will have a longer time during their development in the womb to be affected by the TTTS abnormalities. Without treatment, most of these babies would not survive and of the survivors, most would have handicaps or birth defects. Learn more by visiting our website at tttsfoundation.org.

12/13/2023, 8:13:38 AM

December's International TTTS Awareness Month Fact #12 TTTS causes the recipient twin to become overloaded with blood. This excess blood puts a strain on this baby's heart to the point that it may develop heart failure, and also causes this baby to have too much amniotic fluid (polyhydramnios) from a greater than normal production of urine. The baby can pass away from heart failure due to an overloaded cardiovascular system. Learn more by visiting our website at tttsfoundation.org. #internationaltttsawarenessmonth

12/12/2023, 7:26:24 AM

December's International TTTS Awareness Month Fact #11 TTTS causes the donor twin to have decreased blood volume. This in turn leads to a slower than normal growth than its co-twin, and poor urinary output causing little to no amniotic fluid or oligohydramnios (the source of most of the amniotic fluid is urine from the baby). The baby can pass away from heart failure due to severe anemia. Learn more by visiting our website at tttsfoundation.org. #internationaltttsawarenessmonth

Today is December 10th and World TRAP Awareness Day TRAP, or twin reversed arterial perfusion sequence, is a rare form of TTTS where one of the identical twins do not fully form and are not compatible with life outside the womb. The fully formed twin actually pumps his or her heart for both babies -sustaining the other baby until birth or until he or she naturally passes away in-utero. Part of our awareness today is to change the words used in a diagnosis. Some mothers have been told they are carrying a monster. Some mothers have doctors that go straight to the medical term acardiac, the baby doesn't have a heart. So much damage has been done. Doctors, stop using these words. Doctors, babies that go through TRAP sequence are called daisy babies, but sometimes a daisy baby needs more light to bloom. They are called daisy baby buds. In the darkness of this terrible disease, The TTTS Foundation is fighting for the day after the storm, when all babies will survive and be healthy and have the light to bloom. A special thanks to our TRAP Sequence Coordinator Kristen pictured here who is dedicated to providing incredibly compassionate support to families all over the world through two groups and our page listed below out of love for Ethan and his twin. If you would like a personalized frame to help us increase awareness, please send us your picture.

Today is December 10th World Twin Reversed Arterial Perfusion Awareness Day Twin reversed arterial perfusion (TRAP) Sequence is a form of TTTS that affects twins that share a common placenta (monochorionic). It is defined as when one healthy twin has a cardiovascular system that is used to pump blood through the placenta keeping the other twin alive who has sadly, not completely formed physically and lacks a functioning cardiovascular system. What an incredible display of love from one twin to the other. #worldtrapawarenessday #oneheartbeatsfortwo #shareyourtrapstory #twinreversedarterialperfusionsequence #trapsequence #forevereternallytwins #trapawarenessday #internationaltttsawarenessmonth

December's International TTTS Awareness Month Fact #10 Approximately 1 in 5 monochorionic pregnancies, or 20%, will develop TTTS at some point in the pregnancy. The TTTS Foundation feels these numbers to be very low due to babies lost prior to 20 weeks are not included in the statistics. The severity of TTTS is determined by the number, type and direction of the connecting vessels in the placenta where blood can be transfused disproportionately from one twin (the donor) to the other twin (the recipient). World TAPS Awareness Day -December 8 World MCA Doppler Day At 21 weeks, Morgan received the news no parent should ever have to hear. She reached out to The TTTS Foundation desperate for help after a diagnosis of Stage 3 TTTS and rare form of TTTS called TAPS, as well as SIUGR (selective intrauterine growth restriction). Morgan had to suddenly leave her three small children and drive to Houston, TX with her husband over 5 hours away. The TTTS Foundation provided a grant to cover her hotel stay and trip home. The donations The TTTS Foundation receives are mostly from families they have helped giving back to help the next parents. The grant was for the hotel stay and for helping them get home with gas. The surgery was successful and all signs of TAPS and TTTS resolved. The babies have been born and both are very healthy. We hope that you will consider a donation through the link in our profile. Help the next diagnosed family receive immediate help, guidance, direction and financial support so they have all doors open to them to get the best care for their babies. #worldtapsawarenessday #TAPSisSilent @tttsfoundation

December 8 is World TAPS Awareness Day and also MCA Doppler Day Go to https://tttsfoundation.org/world-taps-day/ to get banners and graphics to download and request a personal frame. “What is TAPS?” This is a very critical question asked by parents around the world. They are pregnant with twins, triplets, or higher order multiples and have either just been diagnosed by their doctor during their pregnancy or their babies have been diagnosed at birth. If they are in the care of an educated high risk doctor (Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist) they may have just been told their babies are at risk, which is exactly what we are fighting for doctors to do. Twin anemia polycythemia sequence is a rare, chronic form of twin to twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) where the babies are sharing blood vessels in their single monochorionic placenta. However, unlike classic TTTS, babies with TAPS are disproportionately sharing red blood cells only, not the volume of blood that causes amniotic fluid problems clearly seen in TTTS. For this reason #TAPSisSILENT. You could lose your babies before ever having the chance to save them. The best way to diagnose or rule out TAPS during pregnancy is with the use of MCA Dopplers (middle cerebral artery) in the brains of the babies to measure the speed of blood as well as reticulocyte levels at delivery. Secondary signs may show on ultrasound including a starry sky liver on the recipient baby that is overloaded in red blood cells (polycythemic) and a light shade in the placenta side of the donor baby who has dangerously low levels of red blood cells (anemia). #worldtapsawarenessday #tapsawarenessday #tapsday

Today is world Twin to Twin Transfusion Day. A day to bring awareness to this rare and scary medical occurrence. Spreading awareness could help save other twins. If I wouldn’t have gone with my mom gut and went in early for a scan I would have lost both boys. TTTS is a disease of the placenta that occurs in the shared blood vessels and only happens in identical twins due to a shared placenta. There are stages of TTTS. We were diagnosed at stage 4 and were told by the doc in the ultrasound room that we needed to be on the next plane out. We had the placental abrasion surgery at Colorado Children’s Hospital on the boys at 19 weeks and had to wait to see if they both survived (80% chance of one and 60% chance of both). It was the craziest few weeks. These fiery little red heads made it through and were born at 32 weeks. Though Cooper was smaller due to the TTTS he has already made up for it & weighs more than Jackson. They are truly miracle babies and we are so grateful for the TTTS Foundation and the support we received. If you know anyone pregnant with identical twins please make sure they are seen by a high risk OB from day 1. My regular OB missed the diagnosis and it almost cost us our boys. Thoughts and prayers to all those going through this and who have lost babies from TTTS. #worldtttsawarenessmonth, #tttsawareness #ttts #tttssurvivors #daisybabies #tttsawarenessday #tttsday #worldtttsday #selectiveintrauterinegrowthrestriction #tttsfoundation #monomonotwins #identicaltwins #twinboys #identicaltwinboys #tttssurgery

Today is December 7th World Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome Awareness Day

12/7/2023, 6:29:28 AM

Fact #6 It is crucial to determine by ultrasound if you are pregnant with multiples by 6-8 weeks gestation. If you are, you much immediately as, "Is there one placenta or two?" If there is one placenta, you are at risk for TTTS and you must transfer into the care of a high risk Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist. It remains important even with two placentas never to rule out TTTS, although TTTS with two placentas is extremely rare. December is International #twintotwintransfusionsyndrome Awareness Month. Help us increase awareness by sharing our fact graphics every day! #internationaltttsawarenessmonth #tttsawarenessmonth Join us on Facebook at http://facebook.com/tttsfoundation. Let your voice be heard for yourself and your babies.

12/6/2023, 8:40:19 AM

Fact #5 TTTS is caused by abnormalities in the placenta predetermined after conception and is the fault of no one. TTTS is not caused by anything the parents did or did not do, nor is it anything the babies do to each other. The babies are innocent bystanders. TTTS should never be explained as one baby stealing blood or nutrients or food from the other, because it is not true. TTTS can happen to anyone.

12/5/2023, 8:41:26 AM

Fact #4 TTTS is caused by an unequal flow in shared blood vessels, but the pregnancy may also be further complicated from the babies having an unequal share of the placenta, which is something different. Placental share is determined by 'independent' blood vessels to each baby's cord. Unequal placental share contributes to a size difference between the babies, and may force an earlier delivery if the baby stops growing, and may contribute to the baby's passing after laser surgery as the shared vessels are cauterized and the baby may not have enough placental share to continue growing.

12/4/2023, 8:01:30 AM

Fact #3 The placenta is the only biologic structure that can cause the death or injury of more than one person at the same time. TTTS can occur at any time during pregnancy, even while a mother is in labor at term. The placental abnormalities determine when and to what degree a transfusion occurs between the twins. For my twin sons Matthew and Steven. The Two little boys who started the fight against twin to twin transfusion syndrome. The TTTS Foundation is an international nonprofit organization solely dedicated to providing immediate and lifesaving educational, emotional and financial support to families, medical professionals and other caregivers before, during and after a diagnosis of twin to twin transfusion syndrome including forms of TTTS- TAPS, SIUGR and TRAP. We are dedicated to saving the babies and providing NICU, special needs and bereavement support to families suffering from immense loss as well as furthering research into monochorionic placentas so all babies can come home with their families and be together the way twins, triplets and more are meant to be. I made a promise to Matthew and Steven on the night of their birth, a beautiful snowy night on December 7th, 1989. In 34 years we have helped tens of thousands of families across the world. I have dedicated my life to this fight because of how much I love my sons and for all the suffering we all went through. I am fighting to make it better for the next mother than it was for me. I was robbed of my son. Matthew was robbed of his twin. I will not rest until we have a cure for all. -Matthew Steven, identical twin to Steven James, picking daisies for Steven that he planted by seeds -age 1 #internationaltttsawarenessmonth #worldtttsawarenessmonth, #tttsawarenessmonth #DaisyBabies #ForMatthewandSteven

She's here! Cocoa Bellis and Colbie Flora were born on November 20th at 9:54pm. Cocoa weighed 4lbs 6oz and was 15.75 inches long. Colbie was only 4 cm by 2 cm, but she had all her toes and almost all her extremities. Colbie was taken to be cremated. Cocoa is doing well! She's on 23 percent oxygen. 21 percent is room air. A tube is down her throat for nutrients, but they did her first feeding of my colostrum! She's much too young to know how to breathe, suck, and swallow at the same time. I was also able to do skin to skin with her twice now! Her vitals were stable the entire time, and I was finally at peace. The c-section was not in my plan. It was what was best for Cocoa, though. But honestly, this sucks. There is so much pain today. Abdominal surgery isn't for the weak. I was just taking normal tylenol because that's all I was prescribed. I had no idea that I would need pain meds. Pain meds are a must. I was also traveling across the hospital to see Cocoa in the NICU because I can't stand to be away from her. When I'm near her there's no pain. I just need her touch, and it feels like a cruel joke for her to be so far away. For me to have to share her with the NICU team. I'm sure the hormone drop and lack of sleep isn't helping. #ivfjourney #daisybabies #ivftwins #traptwins #autoimmuneinfertility #ivfsuccess #ivfrollercoaster #cocoastrong #anxiety #nicumom #cesareanbirth #velamentouscordinsertion #anteriorplacenta #cyst #ttts #momotwins #twinmom #hospitalized

Old IV/ New IV Needles don't bother me. I'm not feeling like I'm able to use the facilities (let's be honest... wipe) without an IV getting in the way... As a germaphobe... that's gross. I felt like I couldn't wash my hands correctly either. So please, stab me all day! We started antibiotics today. That was a hard decision. My ulcerative colitis never does well with these. But, the test that we did to see if my water ruptured is only effective if it happened within 48 hours. If it ruptured before that, then Cocoa is at risk of getting an infection. I'm definitely not pro meds. I don't even take tylenol. All the side effects are terrible, and my body feels them worse. If Cocoa does get an infection, the risk of miscarriage and preterm labor are significantly higher. We will also start checking my blood sugars again. If they are too high, then Cocoa's lungs will develop slower. We need them to develop faster. Cassie has been by my side since I got here and has been amazing at taking care of me. Except when she's sleeping and I'm not... 😆 My mother deserves a HUGE thank you. She's been here every day. Bringing me whatever I need, going to my house, and making sure the doctors and nurses are doing the best job they can. Also, a huge thank you to Cassie's mom, Debbie, for always watching our big little anytime we need! #ivfjourney #daisybabies #ivftwins #traptwins #autoimmuneinfertility #ivfsuccess #ivfrollercoaster #cocoastrong #anxiety #velamentouscordinsertion #anteriorplacenta #cyst #ttts #momotwins #twinmom #hospitalized

We made it to 32 weeks! Honestly, I love being pregnant. The kicks I get to feel. The heartbeats I get to hear. I wouldn't change this for anything in the world. BUT... this pregnancy is nothing but anxieties and fear. From the beta hell we went through, to being misdiagnosed several times, and all the hospital visits. It's been quite the rollercoaster. I've lost faith in the healthcare system except for my team in Houston. I find myself double guessing everything my doctors say. I just don't trust them. This has only caused my fears and anxieties to multiply. Since being hospitalized again, I've had to fight for an ultrasound, to be left on monitors, and to continue IV fluids. I've also been told that I'm refusing medication even though I'm not constipated or dealing with gas. I understand that I have no schooling. I'm not bashing. Just telling my story. I appreciate all the nurses and doctors here. I had an ultrasound today. They say that my amniotic fluids haven't changed. They say that she looks beautiful on the monitors. They say she's happy and healthy. We're going to try to trust them. We're going to try to keep me pregnant for as long as we can. This causes anxiety, but it also makes me feel more comfortable knowing it'll be less NICU time. We will continue 24/7 IV fluids and heart monitoring. I will also start a low-carb diet to help with lung development. I'm so very grateful to be here and looked after. I'm very grateful to everyone who shared their stories with me. And incredibly grateful to everyone who is constantly supporting us. #ivfjourney #daisybabies #ivftwins #traptwins #autoimmuneinfertility #ivfsuccess #ivfrollercoaster #cocoastrong #anxiety #velamentouscordinsertion #anteriorplacenta #cyst #ttts #momotwins #twinmom #hospitalized
