Reading Quran every day has many benefits and we all know that Quran has a cure for the body and soul. The prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) also said: “It will be said to the companion of the Qur’an: Recite and rise in status, recite as you used to recite in the world, for your status will be at the last verse that you recite.” Reading Quran every day is not necessary but is something that should be done. We should read the Quran daily as it guides us to the read path and get us closer to Allah Subhana Hu Wa Ta'Ala and let us know more about him. Allah Almighty said in the Holy Quran: “Recite, [O Muhammad], what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater. And Allah knows that which you do.” [29:45] In this verse, Allah Almighty ordered the prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) to read the Quran, and we should follow the prophet’s sunnah and teaching. Ibn Al-Jawzee رحمه الله said: “When a person thinks about the life of this world before entering it, he considers it long. Likewise when he thinks about it after leaving it, he sees a long period of time and knows that the stay in the grave is long. When he thinks about the Day of Judgement, he knows that it is 50,000 years long, and when he thinks about Paradise and Hellfire. He knows that they will never end. Now when he goes back to look at the time spent in this world, lets say 60 years, he can see that 30 of it is spent in sleeping, 15 or so is spent in childhood, and most of what is left goes to chasing after desires, food and money. When he accounts for what is left, he finds that much of it is nothing but showing off and heedlessness. The price of eternal life is the hours of his life, but what is left of them to buy it with?!” He then goes on to mention: “Days consist of hours and hours are made up of the breaths you take. Every breath is a treasure chest, so beware of letting a breath pass by with no benefit. You do not want to find an empty treasure chest on the Day of Judgement with regret. A man once said to ‘Amir Ibn ‘Abd Qays (a Taabi’ee): “Stop, I want to talk to you.” So he said to him: “Hold the sun in your hands (i.e. stop the time] so I can talk to you.” [Taken from “Sincere Advice To Students of Sacred Knowledge” by Ibn Al-Jawzee, p 49 & 54-55] Fudayl Ibn ‘Iyaad رحمه الله said to ‘Aasim Al-Ahwal: “O You! Do not allow the great number of people to busy you, for indeed the final affair will only be about you besides them.
