Partindo do clichê de que os cães são melhores do que os humanos, o filme insere o personagem em um mundo de violência onde o protagonista lidera uma gangue de cachorros que comete assaltos e crimes a partir de suas ordens. Se a premissa parece sem sentido, Besson pega o nonsense da coisa toda e cerca a narrativa com seu habitual excesso, sem se preocupar muito com a coerência e lógica, atirando para todos os lados e nem sempre desenvolvendo todo o potencial da trama e do personagem. O que não deixa de ser uma bagunça narrativa, conduzida de forma bem convencional por meio de uma entrevista do protagonista com uma psicóloga, funciona graças ao ator Caleb Landry Jones ("X-Men: Primeira Classe", "Antiviral", "Três Anúncios para o Crime"). É por meio da atuação carismática de Jones que o filme conquista o interesse do público. É o ator também que amarra um roteiro perdido em suas boas intenções e que desenvolve de modo superficial uma caralhada de temas, de violência doméstica à fé e religiosidade, da identididade fluida do protagonista (que se apresenta como drag) ao seu espírito um tanto Robin Hood que luta contra o sistema. Nesse caleidoscópio de temas e imagens coladas de forma aleatória, sobra uma grande atuação que compensa uma produção que parece querer ser bem mais do que é.
