I am happy to report that Kiss of the Dragon was an improvement over those two movies. Kiss of the Dragon doesn’t feel like it needed any gimmicks like the awfully dated visual effects that felt inspired by The Matrix or the Mortal Kombat bone-breaking visuals. This felt like Jet Li was being taken seriously, and that made for some fun bloodshed. Again, I miss Bridget Fonda in movies. She is a great support for Jet Li in this movie. It Tchéky Karyo as the relentlessly evil French Inspector who is the MVP in this movie. Firing on anyone in his way. Murdering people in public. Throw in the blonde muscle twins who look like something out of a Die Hard movie, and you have Jet Li taking on hordes of henchman. It’s Bridget Fonda who brings the heart to Kiss of the Dragon. The violence is far more explosive and bloody than the last two Jet Li movies I watched, and that’s because I think it takes the story, chase and the hunt of our main characters seriously. There is very little of Jet Li being awkward here. This is violent brawls all over the city of Paris and I had fun with it. I liked the addition of Jet Li being able to render his enemies incapacitated with an acupuncture needle. Taxxi (1998) di Gérard Pirès Ancora originale vs remake, qui però metto le mani avanti, del remake americano (New York Taxi) ho visto solo il trailer, e tanto mi è bastato 😂. Ora immaginate: siete giovani, è notte inoltrata, state facendo zapping, all'improvviso dei titoli di testa, parte Misirlou, di Dick Dale, già nella colonna sonora di Pulp Fiction, sullo schermo un ragazzo in scooter sfreccia a velocità folle nel traffico di Marsiglia, è amore a prima vista. Sicuramente la mia passione per i motori aumenta di molto l'appetibilità di questa commedia action esilarante scritta da Luc Besson, che nei panni di produttore dimostra sempre grande versatilità. Il taxi del titolo è una Peugeot 406 bianca, motore V6 e all'occorrenza, schiacciando un bottone, in pochi secondi diventa un auto da superturismo, con cui un maldestro poliziotto senza patente e il tassista di origini nordafricane dovranno risolvere un caso. Il film ha avuto diversi seguiti, io personalmente ho visto e vi consiglio fino al terzo, gli altri sono arrivati parecchi anni dopo e mi danno l'idea dell'operazione nostalgia . Commedie molto leggere, ma ben girate, ci sono comunque chiarissimi riferimenti agli atteggiamenti della polizia nei confronti degli immigrati, che qualche anno dopo sarebbero sfociate nelle rivolte delle banlieue. We watched La Femme Nikita yesterday. I didn’t remembered how good it is. Luc Besson was marching to the rhythm of his own drum for sure. Mobius + Walter Hill + Sex Pistols + a LOT of grit… Nothing looked like this in 1990 on the french side. GREAT movie. Though… except for the score. What Eric Serra did for The Big Blue was more than accurate but for Nikita he completely misunderstood the artistic statement Besson was trying to make.
