Notorious Kentucky horse dentist Dr. Paul Peter Paulson absolutely hated going to movies alone, so much so that he spend his entire life savings designing a “single-serve companion” who could not only provide stimulating cinematic conversations but a buttery snack as well. In 1991, he unveiled his patented Bluegrass Poppin’ Pals, organically grown “radioactive hybrids” who allowed lonely customers to freely munch on the oily “popcorn-like nodules” that would appear whenever they set foot inside a movie theater. It didn’t matter if you wanted to watch a body horror-flavored rom-com or that slapstick remake of Caligula starring the entire cast of Police Academy 3 - Poppin’ Pals were down for anything. However, when theater owners came looking for their cut of the profits due to decreased snack sales, Dr. Paulson laughed in their faces and sent them packing. Two days later, all of the Poppin’ Pals were missing in action - and local theaters suddenly had an “excess of oily popcorn-like nodules” for sale across the state. St. James church in Wilmington NC built in 1739 dug its first grave within 5 years. A horrifying tale follows of a man named Samuel who allegedly got into an argument with his wife running off on horseback in a wintery night. They would find his body frozen the next day and buried at the church in 1810. Within 3 days Samuel appeared in the dreams of two of his friends, every time begging them to dig up his body and they couldn't resist any longer. They ended up finding his body in his coffin in a dried puddle of blood with his fingers down to the bone attempting to claw his way out of the grave. The Flatwoods Monster • Art by Eggmungus ➡️ The Flatwoods monster in West Virginia folklore, is a creature reported to have been sighted in the town of Flatwoods in Braxton County, West Virginia, United States, on September 12, 1952, after a bright light crossed the night sky. At 7:15 p.m., on September 12, 1952, two brothers, Edward and Fred May, and their friend Tommy Hyer, said that they saw a bright object cross the sky and land on the property of local farmer G. Bailey Fisher. The boys went to the home of Kathleen May, where they told their story. May, accompanied by the three boys, local children Neil Nunley and Ronnie Shaver, and West Virginia National Guardsman Eugene Lemon, went to the Fisher farm in an effort to locate whatever it was that the boys had said they had seen. The group reached the top of a hill, where Nunley said they saw a pulsing red light. Lemon said he aimed a flashlight in that direction and momentarily saw a tall "man-like figure with a round, red face surrounded by a pointed, hood-like shape". Descriptions varied. In an article for Fate Magazine based on his tape-recorded interviews, UFO writer Gray Barker described the figure as approximately 10 feet tall, with a round blood-red face, a large pointed "hood-like shape" around the face, eye-like shapes which emitted greenish-orange light, and a dark black or green body. May described the figure as having "small, claw-like hands", clothing-like folds, and "a head that resembled the ace of spades". According to the story, when the figure made a hissing sound and "glided toward the group", Lemon screamed and dropped his flashlight, causing the group to run away.

The Kelly-Hopkinsville Goblin • Art by Eggmungus ➡️ The Kelly–Hopkinsville encounter (also known as the Hopkinsville Goblins Case or Kelly Green Men Case) was a claimed close encounter with extraterrestrial beings in 1955 near the communities of Kelly and Hopkinsville in Christian County, Kentucky, United States. UFOlogists regard it as one of the most significant and well-documented cases in the history of UFO incidents, while skeptics say the reports were due to "the effects of excitement" and misidentification of natural phenomena such as meteor and owls. The United States Air Force classified the alleged incident as a hoax in the Project Blue Book files. On the evening of August 21, 1955, five adults and seven children arrived at the Hopkinsville police station claiming that small alien creatures from a spaceship were attacking their farmhouse, and that they had been holding them off with weaponry "for nearly four hours". Two of the adults, Elmer Sutton and Billy Ray Taylor, claimed they had been shooting at a few short, dark figures who repeatedly popped up at the doorway or peered into the windows. The Kentucky New Era, the first paper to report the incident, amplified the number to "12 to 15," and that number continues to be reported. Residents of the farmhouse included Glennie Lankford, her children, Lonnie, Charlton, and Mary, two sons from a previous marriage, Elmer "Lucky" Sutton, John Charley "J.C." Sutton, their respective wives Vera and Alene, Alene's brother O.P. Baker, and Billy Ray Taylor and his wife June. Both the Taylors, "Lucky", and Vera Sutton were reportedly itinerant carnival workers who were visiting the farmhouse. The next day, neighbors told two officers that the families had "packed up and left" after claiming "the creatures had returned about 3:30 in the morning".
