To own a dog is way different than I thought it would be, and I think that any first time dog owner can relate to that. But that's why I created this account, so that we can relate to each other and also to share our dogs diary. Now we also picked a difficult breed, but I don't always believe that it's the breed that necessarily brings the challenge. It's the lack of experience. Maybe? No matter if it was a shepherd breed, hunting dog or different kind of dog, there would still come challenges along the road. I shared anothers post in my story and it made me think about the different choices we had to make, and the different mistakes we made as first time dog owners. The choice between the food we give our dog, the equipment we use, what we expose our dog to and the ways we correct or reward our dog. Those are choices and mistakes you can do no matter what type of dog you have. A year in, we have more experience now. There are things we would have done differently if we got a puppy now, and it would have been way more easy and we would have spared our own energy and sleep too, but life is bout learning. Two years ago I wasn't the same type of dog person. I loved dogs, yes. I dreamed bout teaching my own dog some day, yes. Was I into dog training though? No. I saw dog people as extreme. I asked myself "why don't just have a dog and love them" and "why are they into these all dog training programs and dog sports?" And "why do the focus so much on how they feed their dog?" But now I do understand. Dog has become a part of my life now. Dogs make you learn new things on a daily basis. Dream about meeting an artist and her dog on a train. She was commercially successful, and complaining about her gallery. Her paintings were large and round, very well made photorealistic portraits of women with a geometric mosaic like background, and i saw a series, that were all quite similar. (I assume I was looking at it on a screen in the dream). It was attractive work but didn’t connect with me. It felt like a dream giving me clues on making commercially successful art! Alltagsbegleithundetraining Wir haben heute ein sehr schönes Training gehabt. Nach unserer üblichen Begrüßungsrunde haben wir heute kleine Gesprächsrunden gebildet. Hier wurde sich angeregt über Urlaub und Co unterhalten. Die Hunde mussten ruhig dabei warten und auch lernen, dass sie nicht im Mittelpunkt stehen. Das fällt manchen doch etwas schwerer und man versucht mit bellen, buddeln etc. auf sich aufmerksam zu machen bzw. sich abzulenken. He does me so proud at every class (albeit he was a bit wild 🤪🤣🤣) We have just started our people searching block - he hasn’t done this in a while and has done very little. Alltagsbegleithundetraining Heute haben wir in meinen Lieblingswald in Knechtsteden trainiert. Die Hunde waren von der spannenden Umgebung sehr abgelenkt. Alle Teams mussten bei der Leinenführung daher stark mit ihren Hunden arbeiten. Das Thema Beschäftigung stand heute mit auf dem Plan. Gerade im Wald kann man die Hunde wunderbar ohne großen Aufwand geistig und körperlich beschäftigen. Alle Teams hatten viel Spaß ihre Hunde an Balance- und Suchübungen heranzuführen. Solche Übungen verbessern und festigen die Beziehung zwischen Hund und Mensch. ⭑ So klein mit Hut hat sie mich gemacht! Leute hier brannte gestern echt der Baum, bin gerade launisch wieder semi gut zu ertragen. Das hat die Chefin zum Glück mittlerweile mitbekommen und kann auch recht gut mit umgehen. Eigentlich bleibt ihr ja eh nichts anderes übrig oder?! Aber gestern habe ich den Bogen wohl doch wieder etwas überspannt. Wir sind auf unserer Runde unterwegs, wie sie im Augenwinkel mitbekommt das ich etwas beim überqueren der Straße im vorbeigehen aufgenommen habe. Kann sie mal gar nicht drauf!!! Ist ja nicht so, das sie sich nicht auch alle Nase lang aus ihrer Tasche etwas in die Schnute steckt. Nun gut, auf jeden Fall wollte sie von mir das ich es ihr gebe. 😩 My Dog Won't Stop Jumping! Dogs jump to show they are happy, and we often respond with affection because we are happy to see them too! But then, eventually, we realize this has become an ongoing habit, the puppy has grown, and we no longer like this behavior. Maybe our hands are full and the jumping at times is unwelcome. Or your mother in law is coming to visit and you KNOW she is not going to approve. Or, you are on a walk and an elderly couple wants to say hi, only to be caught off balance by your overly exuberant pup! Or your dog greeted you, as usual, but your favorite outfit got muddy and you have no time to change. Or, find yourself apologizing again and again for the jumping, as if this is a surprise for you too? "Oh gosh, so sorry!" Try this: Practice the SIT command often throughout the day. Make sure to reward the SIT with praise and affection. You will know your dog is really getting the hang of SIT when you can use the command from a distance with success. You will know your dog is a champ when you can use the SIT command to redirect your dog midst activity! Then, begin to greet your dog by asking your dog to SIT! With practice, your dog will get better and better for sitting for all greetings, including greeting YOU! Redirecting your dog to sit is an easy way to teach them it is polite to sit for greetings. Changing behaviors takes time, and is unlikely to resolve immediately. But, if YOU don't greet your dog, unless they are sitting, they will learn faster. Reserve your happy, "Hi Buddy!" for when he is sitting! When you walk in the room, just stay very silent and still (unresponsive) until your pup's enthusiasm has died down a bit, then ask her to SIT! Only when she is sitting will you greet her. If she begins jumping again (don't be surprised), just stand up again and repeat being ignoring them completely until you can redirect her to SIT again! My baby boy. Today I sit and cuddle with him knowing time is a thief. The puppy in him is growing smaller by the day. Replaced by the older (sometimes) wiser gentle giant that he his. My dream dog. The one I wanted since I was a little girl. I tell him I love him everyday, although I always wonder if he truly knows how much I mean it. The black and grey are fading to white as age begins to show. Play sessions have turned into short bursts instead of hours of shenanigans. Fun adventures are getting shorter. While the drive is there, the energy quickly escapes. He is young in years but those years are so little. I cherish every day I have with him. One day, which I can only pray is in the distant future, I will miss these moments. I try not to think of that day as it is not on the horizon. I hope he always knows until my last breath, that he is my dream that became reality. This has been a dream litter for me. It has taken careful planning and patience to get the right parents to make these dream babies with amazing coats, colors, health and temperaments. They check all the boxes. Their coats I swear are softer and silkier than minky blankets. My favorite litter yet hands down! “I ain’t even mad” that we still have some looking for homes past 8 weeks of age because they really are a delight and I can’t get enough of each one. We said good bye to Ozzy and Dexter and I swear a part of my soul went with them. They have had more snuggles, more one on one, and more socialization than any past litter (and we did/do a ton always). The longer we breeder the better and more efficient we get and our puppies get better. 💜 Life just doesn’t get any better than this. Which pup is your favorite? Today has been heartbreaking as I said goodbye to my Mr. Wallace. He was a Mummy’s boy, a soppy and sensitive lad and the protector of us all. He was quite literally my dream boy in every way…I’d dreamed of him since a little girl and will do until I die. Wallace is now at peace and back with his Gromit and all his myriad of friends over the rainbow bridge. Life will never be quite the same and my heart physically hurts but he was nearly 15 and tired. It was his time and he’s now pain free and perpetually happy. Alltagsbegleithundetraining Heute haben wir an der Allrather Höhe ein schönes Training gehabt. Spannend war, dass alle Hunde bei dieser neuen Umgebung sehr aufgeregt waren und die Menschen entsprechend auf ihre Hunde eingehen mussten. Das ist auch der Grund warum wir im Alltagsbegleithundetraining immerwieder die Trainingsorte wechseln. Neue Umgebungen sind spannend. Wir möchten den Teams zeigen wie sie in solchen Situationen mit den Hunden umgehen können, damit es für alle entspannt ist. Der Fokus lag auf Impulskontrolle 😊 Übungen wie um leckere Wurst laufen oder Sitzen bleiben bei einem rollenden Tennisball standen auf dem Plan.
