“I’m not going to leave you here to die, Warden, because I don’t care about your bridge and I don’t care about your rules. If we go on, we go on together.” Now showing #BridgeOnTheRiverKwai! It’s kind of brilliant in it’s simplicity, though there is a lot going on between the lines here. I thought it would just be another action/prison escape film with the typical jingoistic 60s “hell yeah, America!” attitude, but I was quite enamored with the complexities of the characters. It features three men who are all “doing their duty,” but what that means is total different between them all. Nobody’s right or wrong here. All the performances are really strong, especially #AlecGuinness’ - I just wish he was in the movie more. The only thing keeping this movie from perfection is the runtime. This did not need to be almost 3 hours long. A solid 2hrs10min would’ve done this movie justice. And the big climactic bridge explosion was a little underwhelming. Maybe it’s because I knew it was coming, but it just needed a little more... oomph. Like throw the ending soundtrack to Aliens over this movie and I’d be on the edge of my seat!! Regardless, I’m glad I’ve finally checked this one off my list. Despite some personal shortcomings I had with it, it’s still a pretty damn impressive flick that’s worthy of being called a classic. All of the angel’s trumpets are from South America 🌎 Angel’s trumpet is a very poisonous plant, causing intense hallucinations, seizures, and even death in the most severe cases 😶 You can get poisoned by touching, inhaling, or eating almost any part of an angel’s trumpet 🫣 Angel’s trumpets bloom at night, pumping out a head, sweet scent fragrance to attract pollinators like moths and bats 🌚 Certain butterflies eat angel trumpets and store alkaloids in the body to increase their chances of survival in the wild. The high content of alkaloids in a moth’s body makes it unpalatable for most predators 🦋 The Indians regard the angel’s trumpet as sacred🙏 Traditionally, the plant has been used as a hallucinogen and to induce euphoria. Indigenous people of the Andes mountains used it as remedy and tool for their rituals. __ Borneo. One of the best things about driving up to Kinabalu Park, is a view along the way and the villages. From a distance, it looks like no roads are leading into the villages, and the only way to get in or out is to walk 🚶 That may be so a few decades ago, but Kinabalu Park, a major tourist draw, has improved the roads tremendously 🛣️ It isn’t so much the condition of the road, but the steep slopes that will pose a problem for cars with a small cc 🚘 One of these villages closest to the Kinabalu Park Headquarters is called Bundu Tuhan.
