I just returned from attending and speaking at the 2024 International Gay Coaches Conference. 💙💙💙 Attending conferences is one of my favorite tools for personal growth. It’s also an incredible way to uncover your blind spots. While focusing on your strengths can build your confidence as a leader, you must also dedicate time and energy to uncovering your blind spots. Great leaders are self-aware and open to feedback, even when it’s about their growth opportunities. Plus, if you manage people, you want to model what it looks like to display a healthy dose of humility and a willingness to work on your growth areas without taking feedback personally. Moreover, if you’re looking for a new job, you must be ready to answer interview questions like, “What is your biggest weakness?” In my latest article (link in stories), I share four additional strategies to learn more about yourself and uncover potential leadership blind spots.

Fun fact: I used to volunteer in an LGBTQ community and retreat center where I lived in an off grid cabin in the woods in upstate NY. I helped cook in their kitchen and rainbow organized their drag closet called “The Candy Store.” I have amazing memories from this experience. My mentor Pranava who lead me to Hawaii stays in this community and it will always hold a special place in my heart ! I stumbled upon this gem on YouTube. I remember being so nervous to be in front of the camera. I was stuttering and deliberately trying to have a neutral accent so I didn’t sound like an abrasive New Yorker 😹. Now I’m so much more comfortable just talking like myself! Believe it or not gay men in this community were the first to help me outwardly express my Queerness and Divine femininity . There are some hiking trails around Easton Mountain, and as I didn't reach my step target yesterday, I headed out for a hike this afternoon. Unfortunately for me it decided to start raining so I headed for cover under the tree canopy. My shorts and shirt were already starting to get wet under my jacket so I did a Bear Grylls and stripped off, put my jacket back on and put my clothes into the pockets of my jacket. I was more likely to catch a cold walking in wet clothes than being in the buff. So I continued my hike sans clothes, climbing to the summit of a hill and then circling back to the lodge where I'm staying. One hot shower later I'm feeling great! #hiking #sharethetrail #eastonmountain #whoneedsclothes 1. The autumn colours are starting to reveal themselves in the woods. 2. I often debate what direction I want to head in when I come to a crossroads. 3. There were mushrooms aplenty. 4. Fallen timber is perfect fodder for fungi. 5. The woods appear relatively newly planted as the trunks aren't very thick. 6. The ferns made me feel a little homesick for New Zealand. 7. I shared the trail with a few of these cuties. At home I would call them a gecko. 8. Nature always provides the best colour stories. 9. I wasn't overly happy sharing the woods with snakes but I guess it's their home not mine. I'm sure glad we don't have snakes back home though. 10. Looking back across the lake to the retreat venue at Easton Mountain.
