| I remember walking into Southern High on the first day of freshman year, I had theatre as my first period. That same day after doing all of the fun warm-ups Mrs. White had us act out, I walked out that day with another dream and having something new that I loved doing. After one hour of theatre class. I remember being excited for the next day of school. From there on, every time I got on the stage I was eager to learn and excited to be apart of it. For the past 4 years and all of High School I was apart of Theatre. I performed in multiple productions and I met some of the most rad people, who I have today as best friends. Legally Blonde was every bit of bitter-sweet. The beautiful sun setting every night as we began show, the obstacles prior that we had to overcome to make the production happen, the countless rehearsals and practicing, and to finish it all out of course, a celebratory cast party at Dennyโs. #tbt to 2014 when I was so excited to be cast as 'Edna Louise Johnson' in "Come Back to the Five and Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean" at The Curtain Club in Richmond Hill. This beautiful drama was written by Ed Graczyk and was directed by Diane Haskett. Diane had us do quite a bit of table work together on this show, one of her pieces of homework was for us to write out our earlier life prior to the story starting as some of the show dealt with us in our younger years and to go through and pick out where we made untruths/lies and told the truth. Many in the cast felt that I was the only honest character, though I would say that Edna Louise told small white lies to ensure everyone stayed happy. I was also tasked with deciding why my character was pregnant with her seventh (7th!!) child. Sitting at home after rehearsal and going through my script, I found my lies and truths but was finding the task of why she was pregnant again increasingly difficult. References made in the script about her husband was that he respected her and supported her - she owned a beauty parlour in a small town in Texas in the '70's. My tv on in the background I vaguely recall seeing Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's face float across the screen. I admit I immediately Googled him and read his reviews as an actor and comments about him as a person. Thus I decided that he was the type of gentleman that Edna Louise had married and it was icing on the cake that he was also good looking to boot. ๐ At the adjudication I was asked numerous questions about my character and decisions on the stage and them about why so many kids, I merely commented his name, the adjudicator looked at me, smiled, wrote something down and said "ok, fair enough". So a random "Thank You" to you, Mr. Johnson, for being such an awesome guy. I think that you might find some good humour in this story. Its been exactly 8 years since I walked back through the doors of The Blackhorse Village Players Theatre in Caledon and re-started my acting journey. I had left theatre and acting for 10 years and was finally making my way back. Walking into that audition was terrifying and exciting. Getting notice that I got the part of "Izzy" was scary but so amazing. The show went up at the end of March, beginning of April. We were putting on David Lindsay-Abaire's Pulitzer Prize winning Drama "Rabbit Hole". My dream of being an actress and bringing the written word of playwrights, visions of directors to life has been going strong since I was a child. And I feel fortunate to be able to still do it today. In the next few months I will open a show "Blithe Spirit" by Noรซl Coward at South Simcoe Theatre in Cookstown (February 2 -19) and then "Old Love" by Norm Foster at Theatre Aurora (March 30 - April 8). These will be my 19th and 20th productions with me acting since I came back to theatre. (Doesn't include the shows I produced, SM'd etc during the seasons of 2010 - 2011 that I did not act on stage). Thankfully The Curtain Club and @shetheri66 came to my rescue by finding an "Acting with an Accent" Book, cassette tape (these are old folks, 1979 copyright on the cassette) and a pdf cd for the Cockney British accent I need to deliver my lines as 'Edith' in "Blithe Spirit". Another totally random IG moment today. I stopped by The Curtain Club to pick up an accent cd and caught @mdscott71 setting up one of his infamous Lego scenes on the stage. Mike often does Lego scenes for what shows he is working on, this time its Sharon Bajer's "Molly's Veil" and he showed me his Lego versions of actors Samantha and Colleen who are in the show and feature in his Lego scene. If you want to see what he has done you will have to go to his page, its super cute. By the way "Molly's Veil" opens January 27 and runs until February 11.
